BIAB puts the BIAB song files in a BIAB subfolder in it's Program Files directory. This doesn't go along with the Windows standard of putting documents in a subfolder of the My Documents directory. One disadvantage is that my song files don't get backed up when I do my weekly documents backup. Another disadvantage is that opening a song with the standard open dialog (which is faster), yields this:  I made a folder in my documents, and moved the songs there, but there were problems because the style files weren't there also. I moved the style files, and then I got error messages when BIAB started up. Has anyone come up with a good system for putting the song files in a folder that is not in the program files tree? Thanks,

You can store your songs anywhere. Make sure you check 'Bootup in directory of last session' in Preferences. This will bring up the last directory you worked in, not the default BB directory.
We probably need more info on the errors and problems you mentioned. Were these modified styles?
My songs are stored in a folder called My Set with subfolders for Ballads, Bossa, etc. I have customized styles that I keep in the BB folder. No problems like the ones you mentioned.

Style files need to be either in the main BIAB folder or in a subfolder underneath the BIAB folder called Styles (in your case, BANDINAB or BANDINAB\STYLES); however, song files can be anywhere. Band-In-A-Box looks for styles first in the current folder (where your loaded song is), then in the BIAB main folder, then in the BIAB\Styles folder. But you should have no problems saving your songs to any other folder.

Thanks guys. I moved the files again, and it is working fine so far -- no more errors about missing style files. Perhaps last time I moved them I mistakenly moved some style files also??
