Hi, I'm using BIAB version 2015 (417) and have a suggestion for your bass line algorithm.
If I punch in the following chords, Bb, A7, Ab7, G7, Cm ... I expect to hear a chromatically descending bass line ... Bb, A, Ab, G ...
If I had to choose between a half step or a major 7th jump in a line where most players would choose a half step, I'd prefer that the program do the same ... half steps should have more weight than a major 7th jump.
In the following sequence of chords ... C, Dm7, D#dim, C/E I would expect the bass line to be C,D,D#,E ... the notes encompassing the distance of a major third. When the program makes the choice of a D# followed by an E that is not a half step away, the effect is mildly jarring.
I should add that I have 'Force track to simple arrangement: Bass' selected.
I realize for some this might be a matter of taste, but I'd prefer my 'taste' or the option for half step priority. Thanks.

Somewhere there is an adjustment to specify how low the bass note goes. I'm not sure it applies to RealTracks and not just MIDI. In any event, as E is the lowest note possible on a typically-tuned bass, perhaps it is taking advantage of playing that low E when it can.
I have heard what you describe and I agree, some intelligence to construct moving chromatic bass lines without octave jumping is desirable.

+1 Agreed, there needs to be a walk up or down for the bass line. I wonder, does the Real Track bass line follow the same parameters as the other Real Tracks? Ray

When there is a clear intention to have a walking bass, there needs to be a way to deliver this. Good idea.

Also to add to Matt's information a 5 string bass' lowest note is a B, a fourth below a 4 string's bass E.
Whenever I get something stuck in the back of my throat, I dislodge it by drinking a beer.

Mario is of course correct. If you set the lowest bass note in BIAB to B, perhaps it will work, or at least place the octave jumps in a different place. Not sure.
True story: on one concert, a song we played was written by my fretless bass player Mark Egan (Sting, Pat Metheny etc.). After we finished and I complimented him on his writing, I joked that he was playing a five-string bass and as soon as he got paid, he could afford that sixth string. The audience included many of the regional music pros and they laughed.

Thanks for all the responses. Having started out on organ it was natural to play bass lines that were scalar, jumps happening less often.
It would be great if there were a 'walking option' for bass. Some of the bass lines BIAB creates do not sound like they were created by a bass player.
