It took me a couple of minutes to get acquainted with the new StylePicker. I like the selection feature to take away many of the unnecessary styles for the current task. but the column sort feature could be improved:

If I sort a column, e.g. Genre, and then select a different column to be sorted, the sort order of the first selected column is not maintained -- within the new results. (Yes I know that it needs to be a little mixed because of the criteria, but there is no obvious reason to have a SynthPop, LitePop, several SynthPops, another LitePop...)

I think what I would like to see is the ability to sort on a column, and then if you want to sort on a different column, just click it. However, it would be great to have a multi-column sort, maybe by sorting the first column by clicking on it, then sub-sorting the second column maybe by CTRL-clicking it. Likewise for a third column. When you clear the filters, it all goes away and you can resort to your heart's content.

That would be a great feature in my mind, John.

Yes, Sub-column filtering/sorting would be very useful, esp. as the length of the selected styles can be extensive.

Yes, it's s good idea and on the list. Note that the existing column sort is a multi column thing. For example, if you sort by feel, it automatically does a secondary sort by tempo. So it's only if you wanted a different custom sort that you'd need the feature.

I'd be curious, what is an example of a multiple column sort that you'd like to do, as I could change the default for that.

I'd love the ability to have a NOT function.

this is JUST an example:

Show me "all MIDI" styles but "NOT user" styles (hence, show me PG only MIDI only styles)

Good idea. That would be an easy one to add.

Often I want a tempo and then an instrument, or a feel and then the tempo, or one thing here and something else there.

The multi-column sort is great and preferable. But I remained on the easy side and would be satisfied if the general sort order of any previous column sort would not be changed.

An example is in the program MP3Tag

Only sometimes I need more than two or three columns in a multi-column sort. This ain't Excel. (I don't mind a general sort at the time I open the program; I also don't mind if the last sort status is maintained.)

.
I actually use the ZZ styles. In the beginning of the writing process, sometimes I want the most generic style possible. I will start with one of the original "Built-in" styles for the sake of speed and simplicity, so I can get my initial ideas down quickly and reliably. The process of selecting just the perfect combination of style and realtracks for the final product can take quite a while, and in cases like these I save it for later.

I want a stylepicker function that will give me just the 24 original ZZ styles.
