Hi again All
Have everything up and running again like it should (thats the GOOD thing). But now since it's been so long that I have been down without my DAW and PTPA, I have forgotten how to do certain things in PTPA (that's the BAD thing).
I had lost all of my music files on my old DAW's second HDD when it fried, and now once again re-created my project song on BIAB and have created a midi file with the drums on seperate tracks and opened it up in PTPA (16 midi tracks all OK).
What I don't remember how to do is to convert each of those individual midi tracks into stereo wave tracks (audio) so I can mix/master and record a couple of vocal tracks added as well.
I have done it before but Darn if I can remember how I did it?!?
Again as always, any help is appreciated.

Larry........in the audio menu you'll see several options export, merge etc. If you want to convert each one to audio so you can add effects you can right click on the data in the track and auto convert to audio or wav.

Hope this helps

The way you do it depends on what type of device you are using for the MIDI synth.

What are you using for your MIDI output?

Thanks Toucher and Mac,
Mac, I have Midi Output driver set to Delta AP Midi and have Re-Route Midi playback to default Dxi Synth ticked and set to VSC Dxi.

With the VSC DXi you can do fast Rendering

File -> Wave Files -> Merge...

If you mute all but one track, then only that track gets "merged".

Repeat for other tracks as needed.

There are other ways, this is what I do when using VSC DXi synth.

Another quick way to do this, if you have PTPA v12, just right click on the MIDI track, choose "select whole track", right click again, and select "Auto Convert Individual MIDI Track to Audio Track". You will then be asked for a destination track and it will use your default DXi synth to create the audio track. But as Mac said, you have to have a DXi (or VSTi) synth for this to work.

Thanks Guys!!

I have PTPA 11, so did it probably the longway ( as Mac said above) but all in all got the job done by saving each track (wave file) to a new folder (16 files) and then opened PTPA, File>New and imported stereo wave file to each track individually down thru track 16. Then save entire song as .SEQ file in PTPA. Seems to have worked quite well.

Thanks again for all the help!

You Guys Rock!!

Larry,
I have to wonder something. You have your MIDI set to the Delta AP ins and outs. You have a Yamaha PSR-550. In my opinion, that will have a much better sound than the Roland VSC will. So, I ask you, why have you got the MIDI output set to the VSC DXi? The Sweet and Cool sounds from the Yamaha are wonderful sounds, and even though the keyboard is a bit dated, it's still a very viable keyboard, and substantially more versatile than the VSC DXi.

Now, I will admit that using the DXi is very nice for fast rendering songs, since you'd need to record each individual track one at a time using the Yamaha, but then I have to do that with my Korg, too. It's kind of the way it is, if you want the best sounds. But, using the VSC, you're limited to the sounds that are in that, and not able to use the sounds of the Yamaha.

I'm sorry, but to me, that just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Gary

Hi All - I am a Yamaha sound user and I do have to render the XG sounds the long way. Generally I check between the GM/GS sounds and XG to see which I prefer then load the VSC for rendering if I like the available GM voice better.

A little less convenient but what the heck - quality not speed is the issue. I agree with Gary - it's a shame to leave the Yamaha voices on the sidelines for convenience sake. How nice to have two choices.

Cheers

That and the fact that the Yamaha sounds very likely will blow the VSC DXi's sounds into the river...

Well Guys, I guess I can only claim ignorance as the reason, as I still claim to be a newbie to all of this.
Was just following the advice from past postings that I should set the re-route midi output to the DXi synth. So thats what I did and have not experimented with any other options as at least this has seemed to work (allowing me to hear my songs). Will admit I know almost nothing about Midi, GM, GS, XG, or any other letter combos that are thrown at me, LOL. Just an old time analog audio guy from way back using an old Tascam 246(kept eating tapes) prior to trying PTPA and BiaB.

Maybe someday I'll figure this all out (hopefully before I croak!). That would be sweet!.

Thanks again to eveyone for all the help! (past and present)

Larry,
Do yourself a favor and invest in some 'for Dummies' books. For instance, to start out, Home Recording for Musicians For Dummies

It will take you through diverse topics such as:

Anatomy of a Home Studio
The Right Set Up for You
Getting Connected: Setting Up your studio

MIDI and Electronic Instruments
Multitrack Recording
Mixing your music
Mastering your Music

Then, there's another one, PC Recording Studio for Dummies

With chapters like
Discovering what you need.
Setting up your recording space
Choosing COmputer Components
Examining Audio Components
Connecting your Hardware
Understanding Computer Recording Software
Getting a Great Sound Source
Recording and Editing Audio
Using MIDI
Exploring Software Synthesizers (which is what the DXi/VSTis are)

Both of those books will help make your understanding of recording at home a lot easier, and when you go through the forums, and you read where someone is doing something, where before you may not have understood it, you now will be able to go back and look at it with a glimmer of understanding. You may not know WHY, but at least you'll know WHAT, and that is the first step on the road to understanding.
