Hi All, I'm continuing to dive into Realband and finding it's joys and woes roughly equally balanced. My latest issue is that on a number of songs, once I've finished editing the song plays fine but the cursor keeps running way past the end point and the playback doesn't stop (just endless bars of silence). If I render to a wave file I get a file with many minutes of silence after the music.
Occasionally, if I re-edit the problem recorrects itself (though not due to anything I've done intentionally). It's as if an end of song marker is somehow missing (if such a thing exists).
Any suggestions?
Bestest Phil

I usually trim the ends of my songs in RB before I render the song. I allow all the instruments to die out especially the bass, and give the song 3 bars for a tail. At that point I click in the top #1 track and select all the tracks by holding the mouse down and dragging down to the last track, then drag it to the right all the way to the end of the song.
Then hit delete, rewind and play the song. It should stop at 3 bars past the last note.

I (and others) have experienced on occasion that when you do a lot of track edits, for some reason it appears that some of the tracks get lengthened unnecessarily. Seems to me that Noel has experienced this, as has RHarv. Maybe they can chime in with a solution. I'm not at my music machine right now, so can't play with it.

One time I Pasted a vocal part into a track in several locations. I selected that track and did a CTRL A selecting the entire track. I applied the compression effect from the EDIT> AUDIO EFFECTS menu. When I played the song to listen to the effect, it played way past the end of the song. I'm not sure if the CTRL A had anything to do with the track Data extending past the end of the song.

Cause; unsure, as I try to use known good methods but obviously have caused this somehow
Solution; well here it has been to select all tracks (or if you know which one is the offender, you can select only that one), then use Cut (make sure 'Close Gap' option is selected and your From-Thru settings are what you want before actually Cutting). Save As and test.
Tidy up afterwards ..
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

(Thinking it may have lots more functionality - duhh!) I bought a copy of Powertracks Pro Audio.
As you can imagine, it hardly gets used but, oddly, if I open one of the affected tracks, play it in Powertracks, then the song DOES stop at the end.
Greater minds than mine are required.
I think the basic premise of BIAB and Realband is superb, but the editing capability of Realband - compared to other DAWs I've used - is rudimentary and clumsy in the extreme.
I know others import their BIAB tracks into a second program (I have Reaper and Sonar) but I was hoping to keep it simple and stay within one program. But the PG Music editing is just too simplistic.
Regards to all Phil

Since I compose in BB and then reopen it in RB... I have never had a problem with RB continuing on past the end of the song.
If it does it could be there's something it "sees" further out in the time line. Next time it happens, just drag out there to see if you see anything. This could happen if you import audio from another source. One project I did brought in some tracks from an online project....and nothing seemed to be importing properly.... (In Sonar) .... after a few exasperating moments, I found ALL of the imports I did... 2000 measures out in the time line. On another project, I have no clue how it got there but there was a midi kick drum hit way out to the right. I deleted it and suddenly the song was hundreds of bars shorter.
Also check to see if you have the "Stop at the end of the song" box checked.
Also check to see that you do not have any tracks armed for recording.... that will certainly let the song keep playing if you're in record mode.

You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I have seen this happen quite often as well. It seems to "ghost" some measures at the end of a song if you are doing heavy editing. My way around it is to save, close and reopen the song file. That clears the editing cache from your temp folder. RB saves at every edit so your CTL+Z undo will work.
I have not tried clearing my temp folder while RB is open. It's just as fast for me to close and reopen. I will try that the next time I go upstairs and work. If it does I will just write a 2 line batch file and run it from the desktop. That will allow me to use Windows+D to get to desktop, run that batch file, then go back to work.
I once saw ghosting like this that was something like 12 bars after the end of the song. RB just randomly pasted some junk there. I agree with the logic that yeah, it isn't a big deal to erase those measures with a cut, but why should we have to? This is obviously a glitch and it needs to be fixed. I only go back as far as maybe 2009 with PG software but I have had this anomaly for 7 years and it should be fixed. My analogy is that when a drain leaks you can put duct tape around it or have the plumber that put the drain in fix it to work like it was supposed to. Those who have read my posts here know my feelings about software bugs. Workarounds and band-aids are not acceptable to me. What is baffling is that if you speak to 100 people, 60 have no issues, and the other 40 have different issues. These things pop up at random and there is on consistent pattern to the bugs. Computers and software are not supposed to work like that. If one user has a bug, everybody should, because there is no PG for just Bob, or for just Fred, or for just Sam... every copy is the same root software with more amenities added for the different versions. (That is from the nerd perspective.) I really dislike companies that let things go because they know there is a way around a problem. (You listening, Micro$oft?) Fix the problem.

Eddie's comments certainly ring a bell with me. I'm a relative newbie to Realband (and so some of the things I'm doing wrong may be due to ignorance or clumsiness) but I have been struck reading this forum how different people's experiences are. Big problems that crop up for some appear never to trouble others. It is confusing how the same software appears to behave so differently for everyone.
