After the long wait I have upgraded to BiaB for Mac 2009. I use Biab to make backing tracks so that each band member can practice their own solo parts at home. The sound of the real tracks is amazing. Now I do not have to export the midi files to Logic and re-record everything one track at a time with real instruments (you know, playing live in front of a mic).
Now to my question: All my music applications except BiaB use the space bar for start stop. I keep hitting the space bar in Biab, but it keeps on playing. Can that be set to start/stop in BiaB 2009? I think it can be done in the windows version. And if so, what to use for erasing chords?

In BB, you are typing in chords, and the spacebar is used for that, or can accidentally get hit while you are typing in chords. So the spacebar has never been used as a key to start playback. Command A starts playback. Or F4 if your Mac has Function keys. The Escape key stops playback.

Sometimes the stop button works too.
yup , I trip up on the space bar too, every other program uses the space bar, even other notation programs.
I wonder if BB can have a user defined commands function?
Command A is select all in most MAC programs. So its really hard to grasp that.
I'm getting used to escape key though.

The Windows version does indeed have a user selectable Spacebar = Stop/Start situation.
I really miss it when using the new Mac version.
(I even asked for it during the beta testing of the new Mac version of BB...)
For one thing, when on a live gig, that big spacebar is hard to miss...

Good point, I should be able add it in an upcoming patch. F4 used to be a 1 key play button, but then the Mac took over the function keys (on some models), turning the function keys into 2 key affairs.

Now we´re talking! What I would like to have, is that the space bar toggles start/stop. Today I use the space bar to erase the chords in a half-bar. Erasing chords should be replaced by the Backspace button (the one above the CR-button, on the far right of the numbers).

I would prefer the Delete key for that.
Makes more sense to have Delete do a delete of the highlighted chord(s).
It would also corresponds to the Windows version, for whatever that is worth.

On a Macintosh, the backspace is the delete button.

I guess there are different keyboards out there, my Mac keyboard here has a Delete key on it. I do remember when it didn't, I think my G4 was the last one that had the Backspace labeling there. Same key, though.

Your Mac keyboard has both a delete and a backspace?

No.
Where there is the Backspace key (on others) mine is the same key but labeled as Delete. Dunno why. But this particular iMac came from the university and not fresh from the box...
The Macbook Pro, on the other hand, I'll have to get up and go look again, but I think it has the "proper" Backspace symbol there.

Peter, while you're thinking about that space bar start/stop, it would be nice to have the space bar default to "Replay" if that function is enabled. That is, if changes require a new 'compile' of the song then the Play function should be hit; if there's been no change to the song then that space bar should quickly hit the replay instead of regenerating the song. If I'm standing, then I'm likely in 'performance mode' or 'practice mode'. When I'm practicing, I want to hit that bar and stop/start the song quickly. IMHO.

My thinking is that the Spacebar should be "re-play from here", so that if you're at bar 10, it will replay from there.

You can use the spacebar to stop your song in the following way: Go to SONG and uncheck WIZARD PLAYALONG and now play your song and a spacebar tap will stop it. It will not start it tough but F4 will.

I like that idea. Might think about a preference to allow choosing the action. Seems the options should be: - Start/Pause/Continue - Start/Stop
Thanks for taking suggestions, Peter.
