Hello and TIA for any insights. I lurk often and post seldom. Here is my situation.... I am trying to get set up in PTP 12 with my M-Audio NRV-10 mixer/interface (10 inputs, 10 outputs - all virtual I/O through the Firewire). Under Options/Preferences I select ASIO from dropdown menu and click the Drivers button. I see just what I would expect... which is a choice of any of 5 stereo pairs for an input and any of 5 stereo pairs for an output. What I'm not expecting is what happens at the individual track level (track screen, audio track). When I right click for track properties I do not see a choice of ports for input or output - only the port selected as described above at drivers button dialog - and the same port appears 16 times in the ports select window
example:

"ASIO: (0,1) Analog Out NRV-10 3,4 L + Analog Out NRV-10 3,4 R"

appears 16 times.

So... is PTP 12 supposed to see all the ports at each track? so I can send each audio track to its own mixer channel? That's how it worked in Sonar - but I'm now trying use PTP for lower hardware demands and tighter integration with BIAB-PTP-Realband. Or is PTP not able to work with all the ports of this hardware interface at the same time. I hope this makes sense. Again I thank any of you for your thoughts.

Hi Kelly,

Go back to that main Prefs Audio window and select all of the available inputs and outputs by highlighting all of them. You may or may not have to use ctrl-click to do that, I don't recall right now, but you can indeed select multiple inputs and outputs there. Select them all and say Okay.

Now, when you open the Ports menu in Tracks View, you should be able to pick from the available inputs and outputs.

I think in PT it just relies on your selections in the preferences window that Mac described.

However many you selected is how many tracks you will end up with.

Example- in preferences you select inputs 1&2, 3&4, and 5&6.
If you highlite a track to record on PT will record all six inputs and then when you are done recording it will just put them on the next available tracks. So if you recorded onto track 6, the rest will go onto 7 and 8 (assuming stereo tracks).

The real trick is to decide on whether to record to stereo track or mono track. Whatever you set the track as will determine how PT handles the inputs. In the above example if the track being recorded to is set to stereo, then the first two inputs go to that track (as left and right) and the next two go to the next available blank track and the last two go to the next available blank tracks so you end up with three stereo tracks.

However, if the track being recorded with is a mono track, PT will put the inputs on the next six available tracks a mono tracks.

So in the future you will have to be mindful of how many inputs are highlited in the preferences section, or you will spend time going back to delete blank tracks if you only wanted to record one stereo pair and had three pairs highlighted. This is because in PT the selections in the preferences input area set these parameters, not the port on the track... port on track is for output only, if my memory is serving me correctly (I used PT a LOT before Realband).

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thank you for responding. It really helped to know how the tracks were assigned based on stereo/mono choice.
