Greetings forum,

I mainly use RB to play standard midi files. Sometimes when I load a file, the blue part markers are inserted automatically in the chord view window. Sometimes the part markers are more complete than others.

Is there any way to generate the part markers to jive with the song changes. I know that I can do it in real time by clicking the measure. Help please.

Green and Blue part markers can be inserted anywhere you want by opening the Chord Window and clicking on the Bar Number required. This will have no effect on the way Midi Tracks are played but is used control the style options when style tracks are generated. The part markers also influence the generation of RealDrums and RealTracks.

I’m sorry. You misunderstood my question. I know that you can insert them by clicking on them. I want the markers to generate automatically when the song loads and coincide with the breaks in the song. And yes, I know that the part markers help with the drum tracks and fills. That is why I want the markers. Thank you.

I don't think RealBand has the ability to take a look at a MIDI file and decide where to put Part Markers automatically.

Thanks Mac,

Is there a way to do it in BIAB and load it to RB?

Don't know.

Give it a try and see if BB puts the part markers where the MIDI file has them.

Likely you will have to use the MIDI Wizard here...

I just gave it a try in RB using about 20 or so midi's and all I get is one part marker on bar 1, that's it. I don't know what to tell you, I'm not seeing any other part markers. What's the source of your midi's?

I export my BBW files to midi (type 1) and import them into Sonar (ver 5). I get all the part markers, any other text I've entered in the notation view. Then, often in Sonar, I will add other markers at points to remind me of an upcoming event, passage, or mark a bridge, lull, or break. The BBW midi gives me a good starting point, then I add markers where needed.

If the Midi file has no part markers then the file opened in RB will not have them either. Midi files originating from BIAB will have Blue and Green part markers which are retained in RB. I have a run a test transferring a BIAB file to RB via the clipboard and opening it in RB by File > "Open from Clipboard" and the part markers are retained. Note that the BIAB file needs to be expanded by BIAB > Edit Unfold before copying to Clipboard. In addition I always set the Chord Options in the RB Chord Window to "Never" automatically interpret chords when absent from an opened file.
