Last time I posted this, there was only the beginning part with the simulated rainstorm.

Check out the entire performance.

MAGNIFICENT. Sophisticated primitivism. Child's play and doo-wop, and . . . imagination.

I particularly appreciate this as my earliest involvement in organized music was in large a capella choirs performing both sacred and secular music. We did some great, even majestic, stuff, but nothing as much fun as this. Micing the large ensemble opens up possibilities we never dreamed of.

Thanks, Mac.

The intro is briljant! The arrangement is quite enjoyable indeed.
Too bad the voices aren't quite strong enough to carry the whole to a higher level.

I think I'm gonna browse around for some more choiremusic; it's not a sort of music I listen to all that much. I think I can learn a lot from the arrangements.

Wow! That was awesome! Often times when a choir does a song, it is changed so much from the original that many times you can't tell what the song is. That is not a bad thing. It is refreshing though to hear how that many voices can come together in perfect harmony. Thanks for sharing the video!

I have to get my hearing checked or something. It seemed to me when the men came in that they were quite a ways off pitch. I love the concept, but I didn't even listen through the whole thing because of this. But I was totally off with a tempo slur I thought I heard in a drum loop that rharv posted that on a 2nd listen on a different computer (with much better speakers and potentially a different .mp3 codec) sounded right on time.

It does remind me however of one of my favorite TV commercials of all time - even though it didn't run in the US. It's a Honda Civic commercial where a choir does a performance of the experience of driving a Civic. Google with these search terms: choir honda civic commercial

and you'll hit it.

Ah, you guys with "perfect pitch" . . . suffer, already.

My high-school choir director knew that we (his 120-voice a capella choir) would go about a half pitch flat during a song--so during competitions he would start us out one-half tone above where we needed to end up for judging. Worked every time.

Musta been excruciating for anyone with pitch memory, though.

Intonation was spot on throughout the entire performance. (I would not label it a Strong Performance if there were intonation problems... )

Scott, get the hearing checked, although I've never found hearing damage to also affect sense of pitch recognition, if you can hear it at all, then you can differentiate.

I have found, though, that listening to ensembles that were not quite in tune will become detrimental to the ability to detect intonation. The filter of gray matter between the ears is adaptable. We become what we listen to as it were.

Hi, Mac -

I finally got a chance to listen to this and that was awesome!

That's also a lot of microphones (looks like everyone got their own). One of my favorite Toto songs and they really nailed it. And they definitely seemed to enjoy singing it.

Thanks!!!

Not trying to be the smartypants here, but like Scott I also heard some glitches here and there. But that's only natural: when a couple of voices sing the same melody at the same pitch, there is bound to be some deviation between them. That's no big deal when all the voices are recorded as one; it will blend to one voice. But you will hear it when the voices are recorded seperatly. Give the soundengineer credit for capturing the sound of the individuals so well, because that's what's nagging Scott (and me) in this performance. That's what I ment with my comment on the singers not being quite strong enough to make it rocksolid.

Still, it's a verry impressive performance and I really enjoyed it.

The intonation differences I heard in there would only count as a bit of Chorusing.

And, after all, they are indeed a Chorus...
