this is a repost of a nice song with my friend of 40 years, mike auldridge, on the dobro. mike is arguably the best dobro player in the world and has backed most top artists. here he takes two great instrumental breaks. btw, what genre is this tune? it is not true bluegrass, its more like americana or folk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3zhSNdoIak

Those harmonics after the chorus were quite tasty! It's amazing how those well placed licks on the dobro just feel like home even if you aren't from the hills. Don, I don't know if Mike is still playing or not. I was late to come to fall in love with the sound of the dobro. I first got hooked on the sound with Jerry Douglas playing on Allison Krauss and Union Station CDs. My wife treated me to their concert in Detroit last year (or maybe 2 years ago now!) and it was a simply delightful show. Jerry Douglas played a 1/2 hour intermission that was psychadelic dobro. I wish I had a recording of that. Not bluegrass (which he covers as good as anyone) but mind-bending stuff with electrified dobro and loops and what not. Thanks for sharing. If you get a chance to watch Jerry Douglas videos on YouTube, there are some pretty decent recordings. here's one where he did a live performance on a radio show which has pretty good audio quality. I would say it's folk music Don, reminds me of the Kingston Trio. I love dobro, and use it as much as possible in my BIAB projects. Thanks for posting the links.

mike's band is called 'chesapeake booking in the washington, dc area and they have several releases available. he also backs john starling and many others. he has an endorsement deal with 'beard guitar company' on his signature model resophonic. he is semi retired at 71 years old.

being all acoustic it qualifies as bluegrass but the story line seems to be more in the folk genre.

Mighty impessive band. A very enjoyable listen. Reminded me of Alison Krauss and Union Station (I have a great live DVD of theirs), especially on the harmonies. Wow, what is it about dobro that, well, hits the spot. And yes, those harmonics! Nice.  John
