What do i when i play duel with BIAB, at their own instrument which is not a C instrument but a Bb or Eb instrument
The BIAB instruments as C instruments.
If you play a C on a piano, you play a D on a clarinet for the blade to be together.

Well done, Jorgen - you are finally in the right area of the forum. Hope I can help

I don't know the answer but maybe I can interpret for you? As I understand it:

What do I do when I play duets with BIAB? BIAB seems to only play C instruments but I want to play Bb or Eb.

Sounds like a horn player to me, folks.

Mac?

Hi Jorgen,

In the Notation View, hit the Options tab and in the window that opens, locate the Transpose dropdown near the middle.

Here you can select by Instrument, such as "Bb Trumpet" or you can select by number of half steps.

BIAB will then read out in the transposed key, but still play back in the Concert key.

So if the song is in C, everything but what you hear will be transposed on the notation, lead sheets and chord grid to the key of D.

If you want to have a way for both of you to read together at once, you will have to print out Lead Sheets, one for the Bb and then transpose back to C and read the screen for the C instrument.

A big thank you to PGMusic for the transpose feature. If I want to go from C instrument to Bb Instrument, I do the transpose on the main screen. For example C = D (for Bb instrument) Eb = F, etc.. I was doing this in Sibelius which does the transposition automatically, but I had to input the melody into Sibelius to get the printouts. This whole process is much easier to do within Biab and I like the printed format better also. Nice job PG Music!!

I play a C instrument but always wondered about Horn instruments. I now know a Trumpet is not a C instrument. The one I am referring to is a Bb instrument. When you transpose from C to D what about the chords? Our we talking about transposing only the melody for the Trumpet from C to D and before you print out the Trumpet part you should first delete the chords? The reason I ask is you say you should transpose the song back to C for both to play.

Bb Trumpet would want to see the chords in that key. For example, when improvising a solo after playing the melody.

To get both, use the Print feature to print out a chart for the Bb Instrument, then transpose the readout back to C using the same Notation View - Options command and either print that out or read it from the screen for the C instrument during playback.

That makes a clearer picture of transposing instruments. I can understand the Bb instrument running up and down the scales using those chords. My 11 year old granddaughter will be returning to her third year in the school band. She plays Trumpet and is coming along OK. I want to use Biab to transpose songs so we can play together so I need to learn about all this.
