Hi to All,
Well I'm back, with another prob that's got me stumped.LOL
I am trying to add a vocal track to this song and everytime it records the vocal it also records all of the music tracks (16 of them also stereo audio) along with and ontop of the new vocal only (supposedly) track.
Cannot find what is causing this. Using PT-11 with audiophile 2496 soundcard.
Any suggestions and/or help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Larry

Are you using headphones? Do they leak??

Hi Sam.
Thanks for the reply. Yes I am using closed back quality headphones and there is a little (very little) leakage but nowhere near what I am getting in the playback of what I have recorded.
When I playback just the vocal track with all others red-x'd out the music that has been also recorded is much louder that the recorded vocal on that vocal track.
So must be in some setting I have that just is not right in PT.

Sounds like your sound card settings. Check them.

Other than that, Mac will know the answer and it is a very simple setting somewhere.

Sorry I can't be of more help on this occasion

Hi Opsvisor,

The most common reason for this complaint is that the soundcard's software recording mixer is set to "What U Hear" or "Stereo Mix" or some other name for the input that records everything from the output.

To record only the track you are currently attached to with guitar or mic or whatever, you need to visit the soundcard's Record Properties and reset that to the input, such as "Line".

Hi Mac.
I am using the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card with the patchbay / router settings of Monitor Mixer ticked in both H/W Out 1/2 and also in the H/W Out S/PDIF colums.
But also have tried just about every other combo's associated with those two colums with still no luck.
Or maybe I just haven't hit the "Just Right" combo yet.LOL
Anyway still cannot record just a vocal onto a track without also recording any music tracks that are ticked green check marked (so I can hear what I am singing to).

Anymore ideas?

Thanks
Larry

Here is how the machine I have here with an AP2496 is configured:

Doubleclick on the M-Audio icon in your taskbar.

Monitor Mixer tab: Master Volume, check Stereo Link and turn all the way up. Do the same for Wav Out 1/2 and also move the L fader all the way Left and the R fader all the way Right. Mute both S/PDIF faders. Hardware In 1/2, do exactly the same as for Wav Out 1/2.

Patchbay/Router tab: Select 'Monitor Mix' in H/W Out 1/2 column.

Hardware Settings:

Master Clock = Internal Xtal

Rates, select 44,100 - do not check Rate Locked or Reset Rate when Idle

Multitrack Driver Devices = check Single and In Sync

DMA buffer size depends on your machine and setup, but likely you can safely choose 256 or even 128 if no pops and clicks in audio playback.

Do not check ASIO options

**************

Are you trying to use a Mixer? If so, the output could be being channeled right back into the input and getting recorded along with your new track.

Mac,
I re-checked all my Audiophile 2496 serttings and they match yours perfectly. They were already set as you have yours so did not have to change anything. I was using a mixer but only in the line to the computer audio-in. The computer audio out just going to a headphone distribution amp. NOT back to the mixer. Now however I am not getting any audio out of the sound card at all. Not even the already recorded music tracks when in playback. VU meters indicate signal output both in PT and 2496 Mix-Mon.
I also changed out the rca cables with new ones to make sure they were not causing a problem. Still no audio out now. Beginning to think my 2496 card has croaked on me.
Device manager says all is well with it and says it's working properly. Guess my next move is to try another sound card.

Thanks for the help though!!

***Check to see if you have any Sytem Sounds. If not, check the Control Panel, Sounds...

***Card is typically never broken, hardware-wise, but in some rare instances it is possible for the software drivers to become corrupted. Download the latest drivers for your card and OS from the M-Audio support site and run their installer right overtop. This may bring things back to normal.

Also look in options-preferences-audio tab-drivers button and make SURE that the program is using the correct drivers, not generic windows soundmapper or such ...

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Mac and rharv,
Thanks for the replies. Rharv, did the chk and drivers are selected ok for the delta AP.
Mac, went to control panel and turned on the system sounds and even selected a few of them with the "play sound" button to audition the sounds but nothing heard.
So went to M-Audio site/support and downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the 2496. Don't like their new control panel but oh well.
Went back through everything making sure all settings were correct. Both the new 2496 mixer VU's and PT VU's are indicating output signal but I still have no sound output
at the rca outs from the 2496 sound card.
So maybe the 2496 hardware has died after all.
Again, the device manager says the 2496 is working properly. Has got me stumped good this time LOL.

Check carefully that you haven't got the inputs and outputs reversed at those RCA plugs.

Connect the card output to anything else ya got that can amplify, see if it is really the card and not your amplifier/speakers/phones that are out.

Mac,

You da man, once again!!!!
I really feel like an idiot, that's the one thing that I never thought was possible. Matter of fact it had never occured to me that was even a possibility. Just goes to show you that a higher education in electronics technology does not necessarily mean you can't goof something up so easily LOL.

All is well again, and can even record a vocal now WITHOUT the music recording over the vocal, WAH-HOO!

Is there a dunce cap icon I can use on this post? LOL

Really want to thank all of you for the time and help you guys provided once again. And especially to Mac for helping me pull my head out of my......well, you know.

To everyone, have a great day!!

It can happen to anybody, regardless of technical level.

Just let the lesson learned sink in.

Isolate a system to one piece at a time in order to troubleshoot it out and soon you will find the problem.

I am considering the M-Audio Fast Track external interface rather than an installed sound card...so I can use it on different machines. Any advice on that?

THANKS!

I have a good freidn who runs one with his Toshiba laptop and uses PGMusic BiaB and Powertracks, etc.

After a bit of setup tweaking, in which Toshiba Support proved helpful, he enjoys using the Fast Track Pro.

I think it is a good, clean audio solution that has good driver support.

Just be sure to visit the website, find and download the latest drivers for your OS and install those, never trust the outdated drivers that come on that disk in the box with any device of this type, the disk may have been packed in there a looong time ago as software development goes.
