Hi swanny,

The mood that this piece creates is amazing. You're voice is ideally suited to this genre and the music is arranged and performed with superior musicianship. I only have a couple of comments. Please feel free to toss them out the window if you want

I would have liked to have had your voice a little louder - not too much; maybe 0.5-1.0 dB. Around 2:30 the guitar sounded very busy to my ears and I switched off from listening for a bit. I found myself wondering what some sustained, long screaming notes would sound like.

All in all, though, I thought this song was exceptional.

I liked this because it breathed - lots of space without feeling like something should be filling it in.
I think there may be too much verb on the lead, not a whole lot "too much" but I think it could be pulled back some without losing the dynamics - where the verb is really in evidence is during a couple of instrumental passages . . .way too many notes, everything running together, whatever dexterity you are demonstrating . . .and you have quite a set of fingers there . . . is lost in a jumble of notes and reverb. IMO it takes away from the overall continuity and cohesiveness - the production breathes beautifully, it pulled me in, but those passages made me want to fast forward. The song and production is great except for this. You may be able to drive that guitar at 200mph but the production doesn't need it to succeed - save it for the live venues.
Noel mentioned the vocal level - I agree it needs a boost - maybe a bit in the low-mid range OR pull back the same range in the competing instruments. Don't forget, when you mix a familiar tune, familiar lyrics tend to sink into the background. Suggestion: Try your mix in mono to set your levels and see where the eq trouble spots are.

Hope this is helpful - Great stuff swanny.

You gettin' bettuh all the time at this game LT.

For the vocal track, try your hand at using a Compresser plugin (pgmusic dynamics will do the trick) on just your vocal track for a remix.

There are default settings in the pgmusic dynamics plugin that will very likely come close to putting the vocal out in front with little or no knob tweaking on your part.

Good pickin' on this 'un, LT. If we lived closer together I'd call ya for certain gigs and we'd have fun. But you will have to help the old man move the Hammond and Leslie, 'K?

Ooops, almost missed this one. Glad I didn't!
Another excelent piece of music from your hands Swanman.

I agree on the vocals, but that's the only tiny little thing I can find to nag about

Great work!

I like the conversational exchange between the vocal and guitar. I don't hear that very often today. You definitely nailed the melancholy mood very well. I especially liked the emotive crying melodies. I particularly like the SRV technique of making the guitar share its pain with the listener. The only thing I would not have done is the hammer-ons. To me, they take away from the raw attitude coming from the rest of your riffs.

Thanks guys. Good critiques all. Will lose the hammer too. Doesn't quite go with the mood.

Late to the party as always but this is right up my alley.

Great song, super vox and outstanding guitar work.

This is a keeper.

Over here, when you post it is cocktail time. We pour one, run it thru the stereo system, turn it up, and sit and smile!

Very good song. Your guitar playing was all over it. I will be listening to it again for sure this weekend. Well done.

Swanny - bring up those vox, man! The vox could go up 4-5 dB while the lead could come down about 4-5 dB and it would be just right except for the big solo - which I would back off of the delay.

I love some of the interval sweep downs (whatever they are called - the slower descending figures) in the long solo.

This video demonstrates how to use the new AI-Notes feature together with the AI-Stems splitter, allowing you to select an audio file and have it separated into individual stems while transcribing each one to its own MIDI track. AI-Notes converts polyphonic audio—either full mixes or individual instruments—into MIDI that you can view in notation or play back instantly.
