Hi all,

I really hope someone can help me out of this.

It just drives me crazy - by days now I try to record some audio tracks (guitar) with RB an want to use GR3 as a .dll plugin. Nothing happens. I've wasted so much time with setting up RB and BIAB during the last days, time I'd rather spent on practicing, gosh!

Help, help, help please!! I am lost, confused and quite irritated.

Ok, I calm down ...

ASIO doesn't seem to be RB and BIABS friend, does it? I have set up the ASIO drivers in the pref dialogs and chosen the proper inputs. When I tick the input monitoring there I get a decent signal on the VU meters. Then I hit record in RB and nothing is being recorded on the chosen track. (set on audio mono).

Concerning GR3: Had it in the plugIn-menue as a VSTi, as I thought it should be. But if there is no signal on the track the vst won't have nothing to chew on.

Had same problem on laptop and desktop computer with different ASIO interfaces respectively.

Any ideas?

In the end of the day all I wanted to do was to have Guitar Rig 3 as a plug in in RB and BIAB thus having a nice practicing / recording studio with me when on the road or teaching.

That software really gives me hard times ... yeah, yeah, yeah.

"When I tick the input monitoring there I get a decent signal on the VU "

.. did you check the second box to allow recording input monitoring?
It's right under the first one

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

just thought I'd ask - yep that was the one.

Are you sure you have the track highlited and selected? Usually if you can see the signal on the Input VU, then everything is set right going into RB. Try recording to a stereo track and see what happens, in case it is a left/right selection issue

Thanks a lot for your quick replies!!

It is a left / right issue indeed. I set "Mono Input Channel" on "L+R" and voilá - I got a signal on the right channel. For some so far unknown reason I can't pan the (unrecorded) mono signal from the right to the middle or left. Strange though.

Unfortunately the recording is absolutely distorted when played back. Does RB only 44,1khz? I recorded with and have set the ASIO driver to 24/48 and wonder if that might be a problem for RB, at least for the playback.

I don't know, by know I've come a bit further. It is still not working as it should, but there's hope again at the horizon :-)

Plugins are still dead as dodos, but for know I leave it all alone, go to sleep. Have you got any experience with ampsims and BIAB/RB? Is it possible to play along with RB via soft-amps like GR etc.?

Once again thanks for advice!

I sure hope you can get GR up and running - I bought the Computer Music version yesterday and had way too much fun with it last night.

Can you get it to work in stand-alone mode?

Forget RealBand or Realtracks for GR3 and some other VST apps such as Waves GTR, Jamstix etc. Use another sequencer. This issue (full VST compatibility) has been on the PG forum wishlists for probably the past 2-3 years. PG have consistently chosen to ignore customer requests to incorporate this (very fundamental) DAW feature - you unfortunately have no other option but to move on if you want to use most guitar or drum sim VST plugins.

Hi,

I found a way to get GR running. You've got to use it as an "input monitor insert vst". Then it sits on the mono input signal and you get a decent guitar sound.

That solved a new issue came up: I can't play back my generated tracks in RB using any ASIO driver. The sound is totally distorted. I tried every driver resolution, nothing! I tried different ASIO drivers (Behringer, Yamaha) on different computers with different interfaces - nothing.

By now I get the impression that ASIO implementation in RB really is ... not so good. But whats's the use of the program then for everyone who does not play an instrument that is capable of Midi?

I only want to run a guitar through an ampsim and play along with the tracks I have generated in RB/BB. Why do I have to waste days and don't get there? (Sorry, off topic I guess.)

BTW: "Live Help" said they don't know any issues with ASIO and RB - LOL!

I once had an issue with ASIO drivers and a .SEQ file that someone else had recorded and sent to me. All the tracks sounded like static noise with the music unless I switched to MME. This was with PT ver 11, though. All other files worked fine with ASIO drivers.

So I just revisited that one .SEQ in my current copy of RealBand -- and it still does the same bad thing under ASIO. Something is wrong with that particular .SEQ file, but I couldn't tell you what it would be.

Try another .SEQ to see what happens with ASIO. Or better yet, try recording a new one from scratch.

I guess I tried about 40-50 new .seq files in RB over the last 3 nights on different machines with different hardware. Every single playback sounded as you wrote like "static noise". If you'd try very hard you'd recognize the chord changes but that's a doubtful pleasure. The playbacks are just useless. The strange thing is that in BIAB everything is fine when generating RealTracks under ASIO.

Unfortunately as a guitarist ASIO is the one and only driver model of choice for me. And I wonder if there's any audio interface left in the outside world that still supports MME? For me MME is really something of the very past and no option at all. (Just think of the nasty "l.....y" word.)

Anyway, I wrote a mail to support@pgmusic.com. I'll wait and see what that brings. But I have to say: I am almost done with RB.

***Check to see that your card's ASIO driver Sampling Frequency has not been locked to some samplerate. It must be unlocked such that any host program can set the rate to the proper rate for the program host's settings.

Also, you shouldn't have tracks recorded at different rates in same pproject.
If you were experimenting with settings, this may have occurred

Happy bunnies are lazy and don't post in forums, am I right? However, I have turned into one. Dare to say I found a bug in RealBand but nevertheless it works for me know.

So here are my 2 cents to share:

The distorted "static noise" sounds in RB (with ASIO drivers) are caused by the "Allow IM effects recording (ASIO only)" feature.

I tested that on 3 different computers under XP32 and Vista32 with 4 different ASIO drivers by Behringer, Yamaha, Native Instruments and ASIO4All. Same result on every system. Its a switch on / off thing.

Maybe someone could test it on his / her own system, so we would get another opinion and might report a confirmed bug to the PG team.

Thats the way it works.

# set up RB with ASIO drivers (word length and resolution don't matter)

# do not check the "Allow IM effects recording (ASIO only)" button at the "Aud Set" window!

# generate a track

# after you track is generated play it back. Hopefully everything is fine.

# now check the "Allow IM effects recording (ASIO only)" button at the "Aud Set" window

# play back again and I'd bet the playback will be corrupted and distorted.

# I dare to say that is a bug and not a feature

More happy news. With NI's Guitar Rig Mobile one has not to insert Guitar Rig as an PlugIn in RealBand. I don't understand how it works but some higher intelligence decided to let share Guitar Rig Mobile and BIAB/RB the NI ASIO driver. So I've got both signals on my outputs/headphones. That really is heaven on earth and let's me jump around day and night ...
