Today I downloaded the RealTracks updates (1-39) from August 12, 2009. After the upload only RealTracks Banjo till Harmonica were present on my external harddisk (x:\). The rest of the tracks are missing. Files are not installed on another locations. Please Help!

Thanks,
Jan R.

Did you install them where they actually are (since this is an update), or did you accept the default installation location (which may have been a different location)?

For example:

By default, BIAB installs to C:\BB and then installs RealTracks to C:\BB\RealTracks and RealDrums to C:\BB\Drums.

I don't have mine installed there. My BIAB is installed in C:\Apps\PGMusic\BIAB and I created a folder on my D: drive called D:\RealInstruments. Under that folder, I have D:\RealInstruments\RealDrums (and then the Drums folder goes under that at D:\RealInstruments\RealDrums\Drums); I also have a folder called D:\RealInstruments\RealTracks. That's where all the RealTracks.

When you install new RealDrums packs or upgrades, you need to specify the RealDrums location as one folder above the "Drums" folder. So the default would be C:\BB, but in my case, I would specify D:\RealInstruments\RealDrums (and the files get install in the Drums subfolder).

To install new RealTracks packs or upgrades, you need to specify the RealTracks location as one folder above the "RealTracks" folder. So the default again would be C:\BB, but in my case, I would specify D:\RealInstruments (and the files get installed in the RealTracks subfolder).

I don't know if that helps, but may explain why some are now missing, because everything is pointing to the wrong place. I know I had no problem with this update when I applied it.

Hi John, yes I know how to update the RealTrack and Realdrum files. I have been doing this for quite some time. Now I have to install the purchased RealTracks 1-39 again. Than I have to execute the update from August 12 again. I hope this time all the installed RealTrack will remain stored. I am not pleased with this situation.

Thanks,
Jan R.

Hi Jan,
That's a mystery to me. Please let us know if things work out with the second install.

Hello Jan,

The update patch installer by itself is not capable of deleting files from your computer to the best of my knowledge - so unless you deleted the files, ok'd the confirmation, and then emptied the recycle bin (or said yes to the 'too large for the recycle bin do you want to delete permanently' message), or unless there is actually some problem with the hard drive itself, I think the files should still be there somewhere.

You have probably already done this, but just to be sure before you go to the trouble of reinstalling everything, try doing a couple of searches on your computer (Start-search) on all hard drives. For starters, you might search for "RealTracks" (without the quotes), and wait until it is complete. This may find a second RealTracks folder hiding on you somewhere. It is easy to accidentally move a folder into another one by a slight click and drag, especially when in Explorer's "folder" view.

If that doesn't work, try searching for a specific RealTracks name, which doubles as the folder name. For example, "Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 085" or "Guitar, Electric, Soloist Metal Ev 085". You would need to be careful to type those names in correctly, or copy and paste them in. You could also search for some specific files...here is one: "AcG001.wma" which should be in the Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 085" folder.

Hi Andrew, thanks for your tips. I already searched for these files. Unfortunately I cleaned recycle Bin. That was a good tip to recover the files from here. I don't know what happend. Maybe the connection to my external harddisk was lost, but like you said the update procedure don't delete files first. No big issue. Today I purchased a new external disk of 1 TB. I already have a 160, 320 and 500 GB external disk. I will reorganize all the data stored on those disks and will use the 160 or 320 GB for Biab only. First I will install Biab 2008.5 full version and then all the updates. Question: at this moment I have BIAB.exe running on my local c-drive and the RealTracks are located on an external disk. Can I install the complete Biab application including Realdrums and Realtracks on an external drive without performance issues (slower)?

Thanks,
Jan R.

That is what I do and it does not appear to be that much slower if at all, possibly a second or two difference but not worth worrying about. Just make sure that you use a USB2 or FireWire disk connection and it should work just fine. (Although I haven't tried a USB1.1 connection, so for all I know it may work just as fast or near it. )

When you load RealTracks to play in a song, they are put together in a Temp file on the C: drive anyway, so once the thing is generated, the USB drive doesn't come into play.

And BIAB has always been able to be simply moved to another drive and will still run. No need to use the program uninstall/reinstall or anything like that, simply drag the entire bb folder to the target drive and wait for it to copy. That is a great feature about BIAB IMO.

I think you might have to reinstall any DXi synth or other software that runs from BIAB, if they write to the registry in Windows. Don't know how a Mac (the computer, not the forum guru) handles stuff like that.

If you have never installed BIAB onto your C: drive, this would be the case.

However, if you have installed BIAB there, then the DXi synth, DX effects and the music fonts needed will already be installed. Just move the BB folder to the new drive and you should be good to go.

That applies to the Windows versions of BIAB. Macintosh versions work differently. For one thing, there is no DX/DXi on the Mac system, DirectX technology being microsoft OS stuff.

To Jan, the OP:

You said the files could not be found elsewhere. Please take a look and see if they are in the "Real Tracks - Demos" folder. I found many there after doing the update. I haven't decided what to do about that yet.

Hi Matt,

I did check the folder, but the files were not there. Yesterday I purchased the Summer PlusPAK. First I will reinstall the RealTracks 1-39, then the updates from August 12 and after that I will install the Summer PlusPAK. I will let you know if this operation ran smoothly.

Thanks,
Jan R.

Dear all,

the reinstall procedure went smoothly. The only problem was the time consuming operation to execute 39 realtrack files one by one. I dont' know if this is already on the wish list, but in this case it should be very nice to have an install tool which can execute all the files in one single run, including logfiles and error reports. As workaround I created a backup of the realtracks, realdrums and demo's, so I can copy the files instead of reinstall them one by one. You never know?

Thanks for your support.

Thanks,
Jan R.

That's a good suggestion. You should enter that in the Wishlist; I don't recall seeing it before.
