The answer is probably staring me in the face but I haven't sussed it yet.

I have BIAB, RB and PT so the answer may be using a combination of all three.

I want to record a (say) Western Swing number. I play pedal steel and will play and record verses 1 & 2 and finish with 6 & 7. Verses 3,4,5 will be fiddle, keyboard and guitar. So how do I create three separate melodist or soloist tracks in BIAB when there are only two tracks available?

Can I record them separately and transfer them to RB one at a time, so creating three tracks, then convert each to realtracks and select in each case, only the verse where I wish them to play? In which case how do I do it?

I hope that I have made my requirement clear and also hope that someone can point me in the right direction.

RealTracks, it doesn't matter which track you place them on in BIAB.

So you could have three different ones on the Melody, Soloist and perhaps the Strings track.

This is done by RightClicking on the trackname up top and choosing the RealTracks generator dialog from the corresponding popup menu. Repeat for each track.

To get the thing to sound like the RealTracks are coming in at a certain place and then sitting out at another, use the RightClick -> Bar Settings dialog to Mute the ones you don't want to hear in the appropriate places. So each RealTrack is generated for the entire song, but muted in strategic locations.

Can be done entirely inside of BIAB.

It depends on whether you are trying to do this with MIDI or RTs. The way you have described would work but is rather long-winded. With MIDI, you can simply change soloist instrument where you want to using the same track. Not sure if you can do that with RTs though

Mac, does the 'melody influenced solo' switch work with RTs or do they just generate something chord based? Seems hard to tell sometimes

Thanks for very fast response.

The strings track is already in use as are the other generated tracks in BIAB - drums, guitar, piano and bass.

I would normally record my pedal steel part in RB or PT.

Is there another way to get the three separate solos (fiddle, piano and guitar) across from BIAB?

Thanks

CG

Again, it depends on whether it is MIDI or RTs (please re-read my earlier response). If there are no more available tracks, you can't expand it any further.

If you have used up all available tracks in BIAB, you could try doing it in pieces:

*Generate the parts you can and export those to a folder for opening in the sequencing software of choice. Perhaps exporting as separate wav files (again, located under that same RightClick on the trackname menu at the bottom) is the best way do to this.

*Now generate the new instrument where one of the old solo instruments was, then export that track to the folder.

*Open them all up by importing one track at a time (with the latest version of RB we can now drag 'n drop from the Explorer window) in the DAW software of choice and edit as needed.

Using this method the number of soloists is actually going to be limitless, give or take the boundaries of good taste.
