Well Gang,
Back again! LOL
Have another issue with PTPA-11 that I can't seem to find the answer to.
I would also like to invoke input monitoring so I can put some realtime reverb on my vocal as I record and be able to hear the reverb AS I am recording it. However the actual recorded track would prefer it be dry.
I have read several posts on how to do this including the FAQ's as noted below:

Enable Input Monitoring (ASIO Only) – When this checkbox is enabled (and ASIO is selected in the Driver Type combo) then PowerTracks will take the ASIO input signal from input port number 1 and send it to output 1 so that you will hear the input through the speakers. You can apply realtime effects to the monitored input by selected “
Input” in the top combo box of the DirectX/VST Realime Effects dialog. You can then select up to 4 DirectX or VST effects.

WARNING! - Do not enable this feature if the input port number 1 is set to record the output (e.g. “What you hear” or “Mix” )because enabling input monitoring in this case will cause massive feedback that could hurt your ears!

Allow IM Effects Recording – When this is enabled, and Input Monitoring is enabled, and effects plugins are enabled for input monitoring (as described above), the effected signal will be recorded instead of the dry signal.

What I cannot find anywhere in PTPA-11 is the part about:
You can apply realtime effects to the monitored input by selected “
Input” in the top combo box of the DirectX/VST Realime Effects dialog. You can then select up to 4 DirectX or VST effects.
Where do I find the top combo box of the DirectX/VST Realime Effects dialog??
I have tried every window, every menu, every sub-menu, every drop-down box, every pop-up box that I can find in PT-11 and cannot find this "combo box" that is referred to.
What am I missing???

Thanks,
Larry

Beside the track number is a small triangle/arrow - click that, then edit DXFX
there will be four FX slots available and one slot at the very top that shows the track number; change this to "Input Monitor" (way at the bottom of the dropdown list)

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks rharv for the response.
Actually I have been there and done that, but the top dropdown box showed all of my tracks listed and some other stuff as I scrolled down thru all of them but nowhere did I find a selection choice called "input monitor"--even at the bottom.

But I will look at it again this evening after work, and double check that I just possibly missed it somehow.

I will let you know if this was the case.

Thanks again...

Should be at the very bottom of the list *IF* the checkboxes are enabled for it in the audio preferences window.

Be forwarned, this consumes a lot of resources

rharv,
Still not able to find "input monitor" in that list anywhere.
First of all in options>preferences>audio..Audio driver type I have asio selected with the box for enable input monitoring ticked.
Also have the box on down just under quick volume change, marked as Realtime Effects Enabled also ticked.
I am using the M-audio asio driver. The input port selected reads "Analog in 1 Delta AP + Analog in 2 Delta AP. The output port selected reads "Analog out 1/2 L Delta AP + Analog out 1/2 R Delta AP. I also have the ASIO Always On box ticked.
Now when I go to my chosen track for recording vocal (track 41 in this case) and click on the little triangle arrow and then edit dx, the DirectX/VST window appears. I go to the very top window marked "Track" and use the pull down arrow to the right side of this top window and it shows all my tracks listed there. Now as I scroll down the list it shows the tracks down thru 48, then it shows >>Aux 1<< next down shows >>Aux 2<< then Output Insert 1 and so on down thru Output Insert 16. Next it lists "DXI Synth 1" down thru DXI Synth 15.
Then next listed is ">>VSC DXI (default)<<"
Then it lists AUX 3 down thru to the very last thing in that dropdown box which is AUX 8 and that's it! Nothing more.
Has got me bumfoozled. Unless I still am not looking in the right place for it!!

If you don't see the Input Monitoring at the very bottom of the Tracks dropdown in the DX effects window, something's wrong somewhere. Perhaps there is file corruption that a reinstall of the program would correct. Just checked using an archived copy of PTW11 and I can see it here after turning the global setting to True in the Audio Prefs. PT11 doesn't have the RightClick to set DX function as later versions do. Instead, you have to hit the DX toolbar button to get to the DX window where that dropdown is.

Hi Mac!
OK, ya got me.
You said,"after turning the global setting to True in the Audio Prefs."
Do you mean the "Enable Input Monitoring" little check-mark box?
If so, I have done that.

Then you said, " PT11 doesn't have the RightClick to set DX function as later versions do. Instead, you have to hit the DX toolbar button to get to the DX window where that dropdown is."

So call me dense but I don't know what nor where the DX toolbar is let alone the DX toolbar button.

If it is the way I described above in my last post to rharv, then of course I have already done that as well. If it isn't, please elaborate further.

A question:
If I try a re-install of PT-11, will that effect any of my song files and/or data that I have saved so far up to this point? Have put in a lot of work to get this song to this point and sure would hate to lose it and have to start all over again.

And again thanks for your comments and all the help.

Yes, "set to true" means a check in any checkbox. Checkboxes like that are "boolean" to programmers and engineers, which in this case simply means On or Off, True or False.

You could also select DX from the proper menu if you don't know how to use the Toolbars to add it. Will do the same thing.

You can safely reinstall PT or BB right overtop of themselves at any time and they will never overwrite your songs. I do it all the time here in testing new versions and whatnot, have never lost a single thing I've created in all these years. If here was a danger of losing any of your data, I would have warned you before telling you to try a reinstall. Wouldn't do that to anybody, mate.

If you see the VSC DXi you may be trying to use a midi track or mono audio track instead of a stereo audio track (?)
Make sure the track is an audio track by right clicking and selecting 'audio - stereo' for the option to become available
just a thought

.. or you may indeed need to do a re-install

Hi rharv!

Yes, I have set the track for stereo audio but still no input monitor selection choice being shown at the bottom of that listing nor anywhere else within that dropdown. I had already done this from the beginning.

So, going to take Mac's advise and try a re-install of PTPA-11 this evening
after I get home from work.

I guess my alternatives are an outboard hardware effects & mixer combo of some sort or an upgrade to PTPA-12 maybe.

Thanks,
Will keep you posted.LOL

Hello again.

Well I just did the re-install of PT-11 and that did not do it.
That @#!*&%@ "Input Monitor" STILL is not there in the dropdown box.

Think I'll just take up knitting instead !!

It's gotta be easier than this !!

Anymore ideas ??

Hey Mac & rharv!!

Guess I'll close out this thread. I really feel pretty dumb at the moment.
Found the problem though!
It had never occured to me but I really didn"t know what build I had here of PT-11. And apparently the input monitor selection in the DX/VST window tracks dropdown box was not added till build 3 for PT-11. And guess what! I had build 2 all this time. So luckily I found that in the updates here on the web site they were still offering the build 4 update for PT-11.
So I downloaded & installed it, and lo and behold there it was and it works great just as advertised!
Just want to tell everyone and especially all the newbies like me to be sure and check for the latest updates for your PG software as it will definetly save you a lot of head-aches down the road.

Again a million thanks to Mac & rharv for their kind help, and to PG Music for this most valuable Forum.
