Well - we have been in an awful bad drought down this way. A few months back - I started this one - shortly after we got a few sprinkles. I pulled it back out last week and started working on it again - we got 10" of rain shortly after. Not sure I have ever gotten this where I was hoping it to end up - any thoughts would be appreciated. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8089913

Hi Powderman, Nice song. I really enjoyed hearing it. You've assembled it really, really well. For what it's worth, I have only one suggestion - a prosody one. For the last line of the chorus, instead of saying, "Lord please make it rain" in even quarter notes, I'd try, Lord (beat 1, half-note), please (beat 3) make (beat 4) it (beat 4½) rain (beat 1, next bar). This placement also follows the pattern of the hook (Lord make it rain) and simply adds an extra note on beat 4½. To my hearing this places a little more musical emphasis on "please" and this sounds more like a plea to heaven to me. This is just a thought, though, and you've probably tried it already and decided against it Overall, though, this song was well worth the listen. Regards, Noel

Nice job with this one, I like the focus and straight forward approach you took.
It comes across very heartfelt and sincere and the hooks are catchy. If you found
the right spot this would make a good movie song.

I was raised on a farm - so I'm aware of the problems mother nature can cause - we have a lot a ranches in this area that have been affected by the drought - so I put it together for a couple of my rancher friends.
I started out doing the harmonica myself - but I really don't know much about playing it - so I went with the realtracks - kept a little of my own to mix it up a bit.

Powderman, this is very nice. Great song structure here, as well as excellent backing tracks and a very strong vox.
It’s a keeper.

I almost scrapped this one a couple of times. I started out with a double tracked vox and at first I thought it made it sound thicker - but then I realized it made it sound sicker - so I went back to where it is now.

Guess in Texas there's no problem keeping your Powderman dry.  Agree with all of the previous comments - but I wouldn't mind hearing your voice come up a bit, or, lower the strumming acoustic a bit. I think the first part of the harp solo needs some volume too. Maybe some sporadic harmony like on "Lord please let it rain" just to add a bit of drama to the song's plea. But then again . . .maybe I'm all wet.  Right from heart and well done. Ian

Thanks for the comments. I had thought about adding a little harmony so it wasn't quite so repetitive - now you got me thinkin' about it again.
The weatherman told us tonight that we are still in an extreme drought - guess I'll have to keep working on this thing.

Hey Neighbor. (Ok so you're in Texas and I'm in Louisiana)  Great job on this. Good balance and structure. I agree with Noel about the ending but it's not horribly important that you change it. But it would make the ending more catchy. I also agree about the harmony. Harmony is a great way to break up repetitiveness. As to bringing up your vox, I don't think so. It's right in my face as it is. Might add a splash more of reverb to better match the instruments. Not too much tho'. I'd rather hear it like it is rather than drown it. Using reverb and echo is a pretty fine art. If done right it makes for ambiance perfection. Another trick that would really work is to lower your rhythm guitar during your vocal parts then have it bounce back up where you're not singing. If you're patient you can simply lower the entire guitar volume then, using the gain change editor, increase the guitar volume when you take a breath or when you have a vocal rest. It's a bit like compressing, but done manually. You have much greater control over everything when you do that. Instruments, such as, guitars, pianos, etc., tend to stay fairly even on volume so they have to be controled. Drums and bass you don't really want to fool with, unless, the drums are out there hot. Then you have to play with volume controlling on that too. Otherwise you would usually leave those two instruments alone. Just a thought. Hope it's helpful. Right now it's been raining pretty darned hard in our area. Specially up north where they're getting flash flood warning galore. Also, watch out what you pray for. The Lord tends to try to make up for lost time.

Thanks for listening and thanks for the pointers. You've given me a couple of things to work on.
You might be right about watching what you ask for - because of last weeks rain - I had to mow the grass today - and it had been so long since the mower had been used - I spent about as much time working on the mower as I did mowing the grass.

Powderman, I am late getting to this tune so I won't comment on the techy stuff as most have been pointed out already. All I will comment on is that I too really liked the story, very good song, and of course a little harmony (I thought I said I was not going to comment on that ) IMHO would be all that is needed to make it an even better performance.
