I've been covering old hymns that are completely in the pubic domain.
I don't remember the user showcase forbidding these but the rules seem to have changed? Or did I misread previously?
The user showcase seems to say that posts must be 100% 'original' compositions. Which seem ironic given the nature of the BIAB tracks! (and especially since BIAB will provide a melody for you and the melody is what gets copyrighted!)
Is is OK to post covers of 100% pubic domain songs or are public domain covers unwelcome?

If a song is genuinely in the public domain (laws vary by country) then you own all rights to your version unless you copy somebody else’s published version. In the US a song must have been published prior to 1923 to be PD but there are exceptions like songs for which the rights expired and were not renewed or for which the origin is simply unknown.
We have posted many PD songs but we don’t call them covers because that term typically means performing a published non PD tune. We also include in our post the basis of determining the song was PD. We frequently tweak/rewrite lyrics, change the chord structure, etc., but that is not necessary.
Many old hymns have been posted over the years.

As I understand it, PD songs are permitted.
