Hi, yeah, just some examples why I use Real Drums and Real Tracks. I think of those as impressive tools, mainly when you know how to exploit it. Recently I record this examples songs with RD and RT, Band in a Box and posterior edition and final mixing in Real Band. The first track I tittled it " Spanish Victoria" a word game of Victoria BC and spanish music style, the song is based in a commun spanish flamenco progression blended with blues and funk, I found part of the progression in Band in a Box demo song list, then I did re-arrange and complete my chords according to the full melody I wrote. As substitute of MIDI drums I use FusionFunkTerryClark real drum, great one!, I use a hybrid I made from Fernando and Catalina LA Pop Jazz MIDI styles. The second song is my rendition of the beatiful tune Look Of Love (B. Bacharach) after hear the incredible version of Diana Krall. I use Slow Bossa Trio plus a MIDI E. Piano, also Band in a Box+Real Band.

My only intention, aside of get fun and write music, is to state clearly the impressive possibilities resources like RD and RT bring to us as musicians and players, and with "Spanish Victoria" a humble musical homage to Peter Ganon, Oliver and all PG Music team. The world of the music would never be the same without you.

Please, I love to interact with all of you, don´t hesitate on ask wyou want about my setup and recording procedures and method, there is a lot to share!

Great Job. Hope someday you get to make the trip to Victoria. The one ferry from the mainland stops just south of Nanaimo where Diane Krall was born, and then the trip down to Victoria is inspirational to say the least. I have lots of family on that island, and it's something I would urge everyone to do. In fact, PG music would be on the right track to host an annual event of musicians, right in Victoria.

Keep up the good work!

Wonderful music, beautiful playing. Your "Look of Love" intro is really nice, with a quote from "And I Love You So". Later, Ray

To all,

Now THIS is what this forum and BIAB is all about! What a great, sensitive musician who has taken the time to get the most out of his setup and BIAB. Peter, I really wish there was an addition to the forum for all users to post their creations with explanations of how the tunes were put together, this would be a great learning tool and also a way for users to interact.

Also, I was thinking will reading these posts, isn't about time for a "Band in a Box Convention"? Imagine a 2 or 3 day fest with artists from all over the world using BIAB? Workshops, mini concerts, hanging with the people you've been writing too for years? Tshirts, coffee cups, frisbees, the whole 9 yards! It would be great to have it in Victoria, or Vancouver. Does anyone else think this is a good idea? I for one would be happy to volunteer my time to help out.......How about it Peter?

Carlos,

Lalo,

Wow!

So many good things to say about your work...
I'll just say this: Your exquisitely tasteful application of vibrato and bending is what the left hand is all about.

Very nice! Could you elaborate on how you produced the other instruments besides drums and guitar(the horns, organ, etc?)

It’s all been said.

All I can add is OUTSTANDING CHOPS!

I arrived early to a restaurant.
The manager asks, "do you mind waiting a bit?"
I said no.
"Good", he said. "Take these drinks to table 3"

Carlos:

I just came into the hot Rio Bistro while you were performing this stuff. First thing, I made it with the chick I was with...after we danced to look of love, she had that look of hot salsa in her eyes....
She murmered, as you were bending the strings, "I can hardly wait to touch you g-daddy...put my arms
around you...but then she suddenly broke into a disco flash dance as you "stepped it up a notch"....
As she spun me around I got stress fractures in both feet, ala Tom Daschel of Dancing with the Stars...
but I grinned and beared it as she boggied the tune to it's punk-drenched conclusion...."

My oh my.....we made love to the next tune, with that driving latin beat propelling us upwards and upwards
.....I ended up chasing her around "On A Desert Island"...that was, after we fandangoed the tune to its
spinning-cycle-conclusion....how she loved your rock treatment, as usual...you grabbed her more than I did!!
I'll tell you all that boggie beat got these fractures, but it was....oh well, worth it..hey-hey senorita!!

On the buggy ride home, with the strains of Look of Love, wafting over the warm summer air, I could
tell, as she again hummed, "got to have my arms around you".....yep baby...

It as an all night Look of Love marathon.....
P.S. I ended up in the emergency room of Rio General!!
Hey...as always....listening to your musicianship pays big dividends.
Too bad you can't sing as good as me.....

Carlos,

I don't hear ANY hiss, buzz, pops or clicks on your music. How do you get such a clean signal capture on that guitar? Give us an idea of your gear you use for capturing the guitar, please?

Cabling used?

I don't think I ever heard an internet recording that didn't have some type of hiss/buzz going on with a guitar recording. Yours is flawless.

What gear do you have in your rack there, LOL ?

Thanks,

Trax

Carlos-

May want to check your server bandwidth usage.

This is yet another post with a link to a song that has shot up in number of views.

When it happened to a post I made a couple weeks ago my server bandwidth was climbing.
Not sure how it got linked, but suspect outside hits.

This thread is well over a thousand views already.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

(I should charge a dime/download for finance my lunch today, hehe). I have a multi server account and aside of my personal site I use that other domain now for audio hosting/streaming. but I think I should begin to use my SoundClick account again.

cheers.

Thanks Peter and everyone! your comments make me feel proud because all of you in the forum are inspiration of my little contribution.

Now I will try to share here song making and technical details in my usual foreign screwed up wording style (don´t hate me)
I hope this bring informative help at least...

For "Spanish Victoria": Band in a Box 2009.5, Real Band. MIDI style and Real Drums.
This song is based in a well knowed chord progression used in jazz and rock (remember James Bond 007 main old theme?), I found it in "Chantala", a Band in a Box demo for karma.sty new age smooth jazz, tempo 75 song. I used it as start point for my song, not Real Tracks, only MIDI style and Real Drums.

For "Look of Love": (Burt Bacharach) Band in a Box 2009.5, Real Band, Real Tracks slow bossa style (bass, drums) and MIDI bossa style E. Piano. Based in Diana Krall version.

Spanish Victoria making/recording:

BIAB
1- After some tries with other styles over the same chords I chose Fernando LA Pop Jazz sty and a faster tempo of 114 bpm
2- I start to create my own melody over the new tempo, style and chords, bridges and vamps added
3- My own Intro added, transitions and vamp chord progressions for the rest of the song. New melody still in construction.
4- I change MIDI drums to FusionFunkTerryClark Real Drums style
5- Finally I create a hybrid style blending Fernando and Catalina (nice couple) LA Pop Jazz MIDI styles.
6- I use Steinberg Hypersonic II in BIAB and RB for MIDI style instrumentation.
7- finally I exported BIAB song and individual converted audio files to Real Band.

Real Band
1- BIAB song file and converted audio files imported in RB. Tracks converted are: e.Piano, bass, string, guitar and RealDrums track.
2- once in Real Band I modified the initial structure and form of song; intro, verse, vamp, solos, etc.
3- NOTE: I used variation no.6 "Cycling" for FusionFunkTerryClarke RD in Band in a Box RealDrums Picker dialog, which generate a more changing RD track by combining all variations available for that drum style. This random variations not always linking right to form and dynamic of the song. However you get plenty of choices, sorta of extended loops "collection" to manipulate, cut, copy and paste in Real Band or third DAW for create a new re-ordered drum track that match better to song structure.
4- After my new re-mounted/ordered Real Drums track is ready I exported it to Cubase for more elaborate crossfades, transitions and volume curves edition. Export back to Real Band again.
5- Next: guitar recording, basically two tracks: chords and lead/solos.
6- time to fix volumes and normalize (when necessary only!) EQ, mixing, record fader moves for leveling, panning.
7- Ready! rendering to final stereo wav track 24/44.1 file.

Stuff used in both songs project:
- Virtual instruments: Steinberg Hypersonic II for MIDI tracks
- RealBand bundled plugins: compressor, enhancer and Parametric EQ, EasyQ vst (free) Robin Schmidt's Music Engineering Tools. As VST plugings in Real Band
- Reverb: Overloud BReverb as VST plugin in Real Band.
- Guitar procs: LINE6 PODxt via USB/ASIO to Real Band, add efx and amp: Overloud TH1 1.1.3 vst.as VST plugins in Real Band
- Guitar: Godin xtSA, pickup: neck (humbucker Godin/Seymor Duncan GHN1) strings: Ernie Ball 0.10, guitar cable: Fender California, pick: 3mm. Jim Dunlop Big Stubby
- My wife "rico" coffe and ethernal encouragement.....essential!!
