When I click on notation after loading a midi file I get a blank staff. I have the right track selected but no notes are shown. The track plays but I do not see the notes.

Do you see anything on the track view indicating that the notes are there?
What type of MIDI file did you load? Type 0 or type 1? You could try extracting channels to tracks and then see if you see the MIDI data (type 0 would have all the instruments and MIDI commands on a single track, making it more difficult to work with).
If you select the track and press F2 (for the MIDI Event Viewer), do you see the MIDI data in the Window that pops up?

Hi Panworks,
Which time signature is the MIDI file using? If it's anything other than 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, or 4/4, then you won't get notation (there should be a message appearing explaining this).
You should still see the notes in the Piano Roll, by the way.

Yes there is midi data in track view and events in event view and piano roll and it plays. it is midi type 1
however it is in cut time -so I notice in powertracks (and BB) There is no way to choose cut time. Any way to deal with this?

Are you referring to 2/2? If so, you're just not going to get notation for that file in PowerTracks, sorry. You'll have to use the Piano Roll to edit that file.
If you'd like to print notation, a dedicated notation program like Musescore (which is free) should do the trick.

I would try loading the MIDI file into a notation program and then convert the notation to either 2/4 or 4/4 (assuming it was currently 2/2 or cut time), save back to MIDI, and then bring it into PowerTracks. Notation should show then. I don't know if the free MuseScore can do this; I do know I can easily do this with Noteworthy Composer and have done so on occasion.
