Been a while since I posted. Have a problem when converting the midi to wave in that randomly the melody instrument will be perfect when played back, but will be off 1 beat past the melody voice change when converted to a wave file. It does it no matter how I try. There is one thing that I just thought of.......could it be the amount of memory that I have? I only have one gig of memory and can add no more. Maybe someone has a solution to the problem. Thanks

I don't think this is a memory issue, at least not in the amount of ram available.

Check carefully by listening to the song play back, does the voice change exactly at the right place or is there a lag between when it is supposed to change and it actually does?

Thanks Mac,
When it is playing back, it is right on the money all the way through the whole song. When I convert it, even sending it to the clip board on Power Tracks, the last voice bleeds into the next voice by one beat. I have not tried converting a completely different song to see if it does the same thing.

Maybe it is due to use of a softsynth and there is a latency factor, dunno.

Well, Mac thanks anyway. I am going to try converting a different file that I created earlier this year and see if it does the same thing.
Thanks again.........John

Hi John,

I Gb of ram is not that generous nowadays especially and if you are using Realtracks etc, it sounds like a drag on the processing power

To make sure we always get back to basics by ensuring the following are completed -

1. Virus and Malware scan
2. Disk cleanup
3. Defrag
4. Shutdown - wait 20 seconds and re-boot

Jazzman, thanks for the info, I will give it a try. As for the Memory I am aware of the need for at least 2gig of memory, but sadly the wonderful folks at HP only put a mobo in that will only handle 1gig of memory........it's time for a new computer.

I don't know how old your computer is but often the specs represented the limitations of the day. I have a 2004 Compaq that the specs say the max is 1GB. Back then the biggest memory cards were 512mb. Lo and behold, I'm now running 1.5GB with no problems after swapping out a 512mb for a 1gb.

If you go to one of the computer stores such as Tiger Direct and run the memory configurator it will show what the max is. If they don't have your model, somebody else will.

Rachael

p.s. If you're running XP, 1gb should not be a problem. You can check the usage with the Windows Task Manager (CTRL ALT DEL) and click on the Performance tab.

I routinely test BIAB using only 512m ram during the beta tests, I pull out all the sticks but two 256s at some point just to see if it will still do what it is supposed to do and to date it always does.

Things that are likely to use more RAM:

*Forte Coyote DXi synth. Loads its soundfonts into RAM. Not advisable to use with "small" amounts of ram, although with XP and 1g ram, should run okay with the "stock" soundbank it ships with. Tested to do so here.

*RealTime DX Effects -- These load directly into RAM. If you have an Audio track going on and also have a DX Effect invoked, this may prove problematic when using less than 1gig of ram. But nothing is "etched in stone" here. You should try it out and see what you get on your own system, for there are way too many variables involved.

*Single Density Ram vs DDR Double Density Ram -- If the motherboard is designed to use DDR ram but you have loaded up the two available slots with mismatched ram sizes, you may be taking a performance hit here as the motherboard will automatically revert to Single Density upon bootup if the BIOS detects two differently sized ram sticks in the slots. The ram count may look to be higher, but you are only going to get one memory cycle per clock cycle instead of two.

I tend to doubt that this particular reported problem is due to lack of ram at this point. More than likely a softsynth glitch using the Render process, or perhaps a hard to duplicate program bug, perhaps just a single instance of a corrupted songfile or something like that.

TIP: If the song plays back fine, try using another recording program such as the free Audacity or Powertracks, Realband, etc. to RECORD BIAB as it plays back from beginning to end of song to get your stereo wav file of the song playing right. This bypasses the auto-Render stuff entirely, which seems to be where the glitch is.

Mac & Rachael,
Have since converted a previous song put together less than a month ago and it turned out ok. I think Mac is probably on the right track. I am beginning to think that is has something to do with the style and or with the voice which in this case it 49-1 (Strings & Trumpet). When I check the numbers in the SAVE + button, it comes up 49 only and will not allow me to enter 49-1.....returning to original settings does not change a thing in this instance.
I will keep trying...........Thanks guys.

If you're using the upper patches (which it sounds like), you probably need a Bank 0 and LSB number also. Select your part and hit the GM2 button. Select the 49/1 from the GM patches and it should fill in the Bank and LSB for you. In the Save+ screen, I think you will need to check the boxes to save these.

Rachael, I have been using the edit for current bar section to select the Patches when I want to change the voices and also will use the SAVE + to secure the voices I have chosen. I even went so far as to start over with NEW SONG from scratch only to have the same problem. I was thinking about uninstalling BB and reinstalling, but I can't remember if I have the original Installation CD.......my last version is 2007.5.

Thanks, John

I think you are up against a known bug that was not fixed until BB2009 or so.

If the Patch change you are attempting to use involves Upper Banks, this is the bug.

If that is the case, then the only fix I know would be to upgrade your version of BB.

Thanks Mac, I have considered it, but I think I am going to have to upgrade to a larger computer: maybe an AMD810 processor and 4gig of ram before I add the newer software. Again thanks to all of you that responded.

These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
