Greetings Forum,
I am using asio4all with the default settings. When I record my audio I get the slightest delay in the recording. What setting are others using to fix this problem. I read the operating instructions and they are not clear. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hello,
Can you describe your setup a bit - how you are recording, what your sound card is, and what operating system you have? Also, please describe when you are hearing the delay.

I am running Windows XP, 4gb memory. I am using VST. I am recording directly using the 1/8 input on my laptop. My soundcard is Soundblaster Live I think. I hear the delay during playback. When I look at the VU meters while recording, everything seems on time.

Latency is a huge problem with the built in sound cards. ASIO4All can only do so much. They are not true ASIO drivers, but a wrapper that make Windows drivers think they are ASIO. You might be able to adjust the latency slider in ASIO4All's mixer applet, but your best bet is to purchase a decent USB interface for your laptop. Remember this device is the hub of the wheel so to speak. Get something you can use for a long time.

Why not simply choose to do a direct Render if using a DXi synth like the VSC?
If using a true VST synth, from the bottom of the DXi menu, it should also Render as well, but you might get prompted to switch to the VSC DXi for the Rendering.
The reason for your sync problem is the method you are using to record here, I think.

Now I am confused.
Robh. What do you mean " a decent USB interface for my laptop"?
Mac. What do you mean by your Render statement? And what would be the best method to record.

What are your settings in Options | Preferences | MIDI | Devices -
1. MIDI Output Driver(s) selected:
2. Reroute MIDI playback to default synth checked or unchecked:
3. Default DXi/VSTi synth:
4. Visual delay:
5. Audio delay:
What are your exact input and output ports selected in Options | Preferences | Audio | Drivers?
Do you just have the sound device build into your laptop, or have you purchased an external sound card?
In the ASIO4ALL control panel (Options | Preferecnes | Audio | Drivers | ASIO Driver's Control Panel), what is the latency (buffer size) set at, and do you have a recent version of ASIO4ALL (version number shown in title bar)?
Are you recording along to MIDI or Audio tracks, or does it not make a difference?
