I noticed a post about this software but the poster mentioned that she hadn't "really used it." I'm wondering if anyone has tried this GM software with a Vista or XP pc and what they think of the sound quality compared to the VSC-3 and other VSTis? I am seriously considerig buying it as the latency seems to be low and the sound quality of these demos seems good. The videos in French but the music is all that matters http://en.woodbrass.com/PRODIPE+VE+USB+VIRTUAL+EXPANDER+AND+SOUNDCARD I don't think it can be as good as Ketron SD2 but I am still very interested.

Hi,
I use ProdipeVe for my laptop. I bought it for 100 Us dollar.
At that price you get no latenzy and the sounds are fantastic.

Thanks a million. I wanted something for my laptop (will probably get the Ketron SD2) but wasn't sure about the latency. I can get it here in Holland for the equivalent of 100 US$ and will be ordering it tomorrow.

Actually, it's a bit cheaper since the price is 49 euro including shipping which is only about 74 US at today's rate.

SD2 is a hardware unit.

You can set BIAB for ZERO latency. (Well, perhaps 1 milliSecond or less will be the realworld result...)

I heard Prodipe VE demos and video. I think it prepresent a nice option for the budget considering it include the USB dongle audio hardware. Sounds overall does the work although nothing outstanding, some decent drums, pianos, string and some brass, except sax...uff.. sound crap like many software synth/sample engines, but as I mentioned, for a low latency hybrid plugin in the host and standalone solution it is a good addon to actual arsenal of GM players options in the market. Thanks for info

It's the small size of the KD2 that appeals to me when traveling with my laptop (not to mention brilliant sound). Thanks for the heads up re setting BIAB's latency. The option to do that is a great feature. BIAB just keeps getting better and better!

Carlos
You're welcome. Coincidentally, I listened to your very beautiful The Look of Love and Spanish Victoria last night before reading your reply this morning. You're a very fine musician and I would love to have 1/10th of your talent. There are several Latin American musicians I admire including Pedro Aznar. I discovered Pedro during his time with the Pat Metheny (one of my heroes) Group.

The synth itself has almost nothing to do with the latency you get. It's all about the driver you're using and how you have your music software, in this case Biab, set up. Remember, you're talking about a software synth here, not hardware. As Mac said hardware will play at almost zero latency, not so software. You're latency is contolled by your driver, MME is the default but it gives the worst latency, ASIO is usually better. If you don't have an ASIO driver you can download a freebie called Asio4All. A lot of us use it and you can usually get the latency down to 10-20ms. That's higher than zero but most people can't hear a 10-20ms delay. A real player playing a real piano has about an 8ms latency from the time his finger hits the key and you actually hear the sound.

I use ASI4All. Regarding optimizing a Vista pc for BIAB, softsynths, DAWS, and music making in general, some who use Vista (I have Vista on my laptop and XP on my desktop) may find this link helpful: http://www.audioforums.com/windows-vista-optimization.php. Also, this latency checker tool is very usefuL: http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml. It was mentioned in anarticle in Computer Music.
