Can you use midi to control Biab? In other words, can I set up songs in biab and then have a midi command from a midi controller select and start a song to play. I have done that with a Digitech GNX1 and a Boss DR5 so that a patch select will set them up and play a song with the proper patch selected in the GNX1.

That's backwards. Band in a Box lets you make a list of songs, and then plays them, and lets you control what happens. More verses, repeat parts etc. And the drummer is real. I had a Boss, no match for a real drummer. And you get all kinds of extras. Look at the videos, listen to the demos, and they have a money back deal where if you don't like it you get your cash back. And this forum will give you lots of help, on any subject, from being phat, to playing a bossa.

BIAB does not currently support MIDI commands on the Transport.
This is a "Wishlist" item at this point in time.
However, be sure to check out the "Conductor" feature inside BIAB, which can do some of this in certain ways.

There's a program out there, if I recall correctly, that lets you map QWERTY key strokes to midi commands. A lot of the functions in BIAB have hot keys. This may work for you. Google it.

Probably not clear in my explanation. I own biab 10 and have had the program since maybe version 5 or before. What I want is simply to pick a song and tell it to start playing. Solo coffee shop type work for simple background arrangement for myself. Not in any way to compare to a live band. It worked really well with a Boss DR-5 that had a four part midi sequencer. I also have Cubase and am looking at it the same way. Just looking at new ways to do this. The realband samples are really good and would like to use them in conjuction with other midi technology to simplify.
Sounds like the start/stop part with a midi command is not yet available.
Thanks

Later versions do have a "Pause Play until MIDI Received" setting.
You load a song and BIAB sits there until you hit any key on the MIDI instrument and that starts the Playback going.
