Ive got two gig nights off yippee so am playing withmy 2019 BB.Ive got a tune that needs a walk up Bass over 2 bars but just one chord playing normally. But if I do G,G/A G/B,G/C in frist bar and G/D,G/E G/F#,G in Bar 2,the rest of the band plays the G accomp 8 times.Horrid and jerky. Is there a way of telling all instruments except Bass just to 'play through'on those two cords if thats what it's called. And Happy Christmas everyone. Wendy x

Wendy, you are doing it correctly if you are writing slash bass chords. We do seem to have a problem that has developed in BIAB 2019 about not playing some slash bass chords. It has been reported. You can read more about it in the Wishlist.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.
Can you freeze the bass track which is sounding correct with the stated arrangement. Then change the chords so the rest of the band play a hold on the single chords over those bars. Does that make sense?
By the way, hate to be hearing this... not really a wish list item if something has been broken.

Matt, with this one ALL the slash notes play which isgreat-its the backing that gives me 8 lots of chord G to go with it.lol Dan,thanks for the workround idea. What I'm goingto do is make 2 SGUs.One will have just chord G for thoes two bars, the other will have the walking bass line chords.i'll simply export to wav all the tracks except Bass and of the second, just the second Bass line and none of the others.Don't see why that wouldn't work. Thank you.i thought there was only going to be me today playing with our new toys. ;-) Wendy

This is funny Wendy. I'm doing the exact same thing right now with a Yellowjackets tune called Revelation. It's a rockin gospel shuffle with a jazz twist to it. Gospel has harmony bass lines on probably 75% of the chords. Biab is playing the slash bass part perfectly but it's completely messing up both the organ RT and the Midi Supertrack southern rock piano rhythm. Both are trying to follow those slash bass parts and it's very choppy. Like you said, I need to create a new chord grid and simplify the chords just for those parts.
I'm going to talk about Real Band again like I did in your other thread yesterday. RB can do this much easier than Biab can. Here's the single biggest thing about RB, it can either generate the whole song just like Biab or it will only generate one track at a time. Again you have 48 tracks here. The other huge thing is you can completely change the chord grid in RB between each generation without changing what's already there.
Example, I have 6 tracks already for that song based on the chords I put in Biab. In RB I can leave all those alone, arm a new track, change the chord grid (and the style even) and generate just that track alone. Arm another track and do it again, and again and...you get the idea.
You can do all this experimentation all within the same song and you could wind up with 25, 30 or more tracks to compare, mess with, cut and paste, whatever you want. You can't do any of that in Biab. Also since RB is a DAW, you can move entire sections of your tune around like you decide to add an extra verse, no need to insert bars, regenerate and all that, all you do is highlight the verse, hit Copy and insert it wherever.
This is why so many say they will move their project into a DAW after Biab gives them the basic tracks. Using RB instead of another DAW makes it easier imho. Regular DAW's cannot generate new tracks but RB can. This btw is also what the new Biab VST is all about. It will insert Biab inside of a DAW which solves that problem. Eventually the VST could make RB redundant but right now I'm not using another DAW.

Bob,
There’s a song setting for that. You can get the bass player to follow the slash chords and the rest of the band to ignore them.
Choose that option in the song settings dialog. It applies to that song only.
Hi Peter.Thank you for that insight.Didnt make much difference in this case.I wanted the backing to play the G chord phraseover its two bars with Bass walking the scale. What I got before and to a less obvious extent with this box ticked(ive written it down on my notepad for other future use too)is instead of a smooth G backing rolling through the 2 bars, 8 G's-clonk,clonk,clonk,clonk etc. The good news is that doing the 2 SGUs works using wav exports to my DAW. Hi Jazz.My 2019 Resolution us to really try RB.I chicken out because my current DAW is so easy andvthe RB obviously needs some application on my part to getto grips with it.I have an RB question but I'd best post it up on that Forum. Wendy

Hi Wendy. I recreated your chord progression to duplicate your issue and as luck would have it, instead of Horrid and Jerky, smooth and silky showed up to play in my SGU file... But I think I can address your issue and suggest an easier solution that does not involve having to open a separate BIAB chord chart or migrating earlier than necessary to Realband or another DAW.
<<< Is there a way of telling all instruments except Bass just to 'play through'on those two cords if thats what it's called. >>>
Try this.
Renerations attempt to slightly change playing over the chord chart each time. Therefore, don't initially put the two bars using the slash chords. Generate the two bars with just the G chord. Freeze all the tracks except the Bass Track. Insert the two bars of slash chords and regenerate the Bass Track. This method should eliminate the BIAB search engine from searching for slash phrased audio in the RealTracks of all the instruments except for the Bass RealTrack. You also don't have to necessarily put the G chord in both Bars. BIAB selects audio in varying lengths of audio clips up to 8 bars I think. This means if you place 4 -G- chords in the two bars or only one -G- on the first bar and leave the other bar blank, BIAB will search out different RealTrack audio clips.
It is my understanding that if your chart reads G,F,C; the next time that progression comes up in the chord chart, rather than repeat the same audio, BIAB searches and selects a different audio clip from the RealTrack to give the song more of a feel a 'live' musician is playing the track. Renerating always provides a slightly different render.
Starting the chord sequence in the order I suggested above, BIAB never looks at the 'slash chords' audio clips for any of your song's instruments. Freezing the tracks after generation of Normal chords and then inserting the Slash Chords and only generating the Bass Track isolates the Slash Chords audio clips to solely the Bass Instrument Track. This method should give you the same result as you'd get using a second session of BIAB SGU file.
Hope this helps save you some time and effort without the trouble of making additional SGU files or exporting to a DAW earlier than necessary.
Hi Charlie. What you said too! Much easier solution.Ive now got Smooth and Silky in my "House Band".Horrid and Jerky have now been shown the door! Wendy

This is a great example of more than one way to get things done.
And, I really need to dig into the Song Settings part of the manual, thanks for pointing that out Peter. As I was writing my response I was thinking "isn't there something about this somewhere?" So many things about this program it's easy to forget if I don't work with it every day.
Even though I've "semi retired" now I'm still so busy it's ridiculous. I'm hitting the road today to stay with a friend in LA while I do some business then I have two gigs for New Years on Catalina, one a private party on the 30th and then NYE I have to prepare for. No more Biab for a while.
