Greetings, I’m having more fun and pleasure with these real tracks than I have for the last decades with B&B. Beautiful renditions of some old evergreens with POPVANC Popvancouver Pno w Band (100RT) - those deep sounding cellos in the chorus and strings in the verse, and the marvellous piano work. Wonderful!!
However, armed with Mantooths chord compilation books some chords I cannot enter directly in BB. I need the advice from some gurus here:
E+7(#9) …? What about E7(b9b5) ? with the b9 written above the b5 (similarly D7(b9b5)). I can only enter Eb9b5 for example. I take it A+7 is just A7+ ?
Thanks

Not sure if you do this already, but if you left-click your mouse on the bar that you wish to add chords in and then choose "Chord builder" from the menu, there is a drop-down menu directly above the "Play" button that lists all the chords that BIAB supports.
E7b5b9 is there (note, it doesn't matter what order the 7, b9, b5 are written in because the notation only indicates which notes to alter. For example, E7b5b9 is an E9 chord (E-G#-B-D-F#) with the 5th above E and the 9th above E flattened by a semitone to make E-G#-Bb-D-F.
I cannot find E+7#9 and (until I get home to verify this) I imagine that A+7 is the same as A7+

Thanks Noel. Ha didn't even bother to look in the chord builder. Thought that all possible chords already built in!
In case there is a misunderstanding from my initial post the strings in the style are midi using the ForteDxi Plug-In with cellos/bass in the verse and strings in the chorus (not the other way around) , real track drums and piano. Sounds like a largish orchestra and a very nice full sound with added real track jazz guitar as well..

Frank,
Bbm#7 = BbmMaj7
A7#5#9#11 = is available in the chord builder
A7#9#11 I can't find in the chord builder. Since the A11 chord is A-C#-E-G-B-D, the sharpening both the 9th and the 11th gives, A-C#-E-G-B#(or C)-D#(or Eb). There are a couple of ways this could be played: namely, Cm or EmMaj7 on an A bass (Cm/A or EmMaj/A).
Personally, the above 7#9#11 chord would most likely sound ok if A7#9 was played and the #11 omitted. My experience is that many of these extended chords have the characteristic extension note(s) in the melody and they are, therefore, not needed in the harmony.
Regards, Noel

And
E+7(#9)
If A+7 is A7+ then its an E chord with a 7th, #9 and a #5
i.e E7#5#9 available in Chord builder.

Yep. All sounds great now. If you have Mantooth try Stormy Weather. Fantastic. But keep the timing above 93 otherwise the piano starts to warble..( Also ays of Wine and Roses, Love is a Many Splendored Thing) Cheers.

I was blessed enough to be in the same Air Force Band as Tooth for awhile.
He was a good man and a great musician.
Always serious about the music, was Frank.
enjoy,

If you're thinking only in terms of functional harmony yes, but if you want to use chords for 'colour' or in non-functional 'modern' settings what the extended chords give you (theoretically anyway) is a greater chance of hearing more semitones in the voicing, the 5th against the #11 or b13,.. the 4th against the b5th ..etc. For me BIAB has a tendency not to play back too many of these 'clashes' either by accident or design. I can understand however that for the purposes of reproducing standard song-forms in the style of a certain era, there won't be too many people unhappy about that.
Regards
Alan

Yep, that's correct. That one slipped by me! (i.e. + = #5)

Don't overlook the "Alt" chord choice for some of these.
Depends on style, don't expect that Alt will force ALL the alternates (#5, b5, #9, b9) but at any one time it will call a "good" pair of them in the chord.
Those who desire to force specified notes at all times should consider entering those as MIDI notes on one of the MIDI tracks or Melody or Soloist track. Recording from MIDI keyboard is the fast way to obtain this, if that is possible for you to do. Using the exact same patches and style as the Style file does for the chosen instrument makes it seemless to hear, just use the Rests feature to rest that instrument at the bars where your static MIDI kicks in (and out).
