So far in playback I can run 4 RT and the TTS1 for piano with the ASIO set to BEST and latency set to 5 MS. Not to bad considering this Toshiba is known to be fussy. About the same in RB.With all midi to the TTS1 and RD I can drop down to 4 MS. I don't have a midi controller to see how it goes playing a DXi/VSTi in real time. The quality is much improved over the MME drivers that came with the Real Tec. These drivers can certainly breath new life into an old AC97 compliant card.

Hi Lex. Welcome to the forum. Do you have an ASIO driver for the CREATIVE SB LIVE 7.1 surround card? I can't run KX on this machine due to the fact that this card is unique and is not on the list of KX compatibility. In fact, last time I checked, they clarified that this card was incompatible with KX. Things change and I haven't kept up. As it is I use ASIO4ALL.

Hi Russell,
Sorry no, AFAIK there are no native ASIO drivers for that card model and the changes are very slim kX Project will ever support them. Those models use different chips and as such don't "fit well" in the current kX driver architecture. Unless Creative releases a native ASIO driver for that card, ASIO4ALL is indeed your only option.

I use this driver for Live gigs & rehearsels on an old P4 notebook. Using VSTIs like TruePianos, B4II etc. I'm able to play with latencies as low as 64 samples @48000Hz = 1.33msec without glitches. No joke! Even 32 samples works but since one can't hardly "feel" the difference between 1 or 2msec response time there's no reason to go insane like that:)

Now, THAT got my attention!
Thanks for the report, Lex.

Mac, Just think of all of the VSTi/DXi instruments available to you with hardware performance. Not sure if you new this or not and others may not. Everyone is afraid of KX drivers because their so convoluted and difficult. As downloaded the original setup by Eugene is complex. Lex being a musician developed a lot of plugins and a great tutorial on how to greatly simplify KX for use by your average musician. The first thing he has you do is completely wipe the DSP space. Then rebuild with his specialised plugs. It's real simple and I just love it and am glad Eugene did finish support for the A2ZSNB.

John,
I've been using all sorts of VSTs, B4II, and other softwares live onstage with the laptop as source for years.
When I don't feel like it warrants the hassle of carrying along the E-MU 1616M with its accompanying microdock, pcmcia card and cable, which is most of the time, i've simply used ASIO4ALL, which actually works quite well on that laptop, yielding an easy and glitch free ~6mS.
VST Host performance software is cool. There are others.
~1-2 mS and native drivers is what's interesting to me here. Even the E-MU native ASIO will occasionally throw an audio hiccup when it is set that low.

>>> It is written specifically for AC’97 compatible controllers and hence will only work on those devices.
Hi Lex, Thanks for posting, and AC’97ASIO looks like a great product. Since most people don't have a clue as to what kind of soundcard or controller chip they have, could you give us some tips about the chances of it working on their computer?
For example, do you have a program that someone could run, that merely tests for the existence of this controller, and says "Sorry your system won't work.. no AC’97 compatible controller detected", or "Good news, it will work... AC’97 compatible controller detected ?"
Have Fun! Peter Gannon PG Music Inc.

That's exactly how I use it myself; as a compact and flexible midi sound module. Keep in mind that glitch-free ultra low latency ( <5msec ) ASIO performance depends on a lot of factors out of reach of any driver so your mileage may vary. I even use a seperate partition with XP installed and tweaked to the bone solely for this purpose. Can't run a virus scanner and a zillion other services in the background and expect glitch-free 1msec:)
/Lex.

Well, on my webpage http://members.home.nl/nahutec/AC97ASIO/ac97asio.htm there's a compatibility list. Point is, currently the driver is in beta stage and as such only to be installed by experienced computer users who know their hardware or have no trouble finding out for themselfs. (I've mentioned that on the forums I initialy released the driver) In doubt people can always contact me or post questions on how to determine the chances of it working on their computer.

The installer I plan to write should more or less take care of that.
Cheers, /Lex.

Ok, I wrote a utility program that does exactly that; http://members.home.nl/nahutec/AC97ASIO/ac97asio.htm#utility
Please report any bugs/issues.
Thank you.

I have a Ali sound chip in my compac lappy, do you ever forsee doing a ASIO driver for that chip? I tried yours and evidently it is not related to ac97 and would not load the driver.

What is the brand/model/type of you laptop? Changes are it might be AC'97 compatible after all.

Well, that ALI chip is an AC'97 controller but I can not say for sure if it's 100% compatible with my driver. You could try a "forced install", or add the 'Matching Device Id' of your controller to the ac97wdm.inf file and do a normal manual install.
You can find the ID in; In Device manager->Sound,video and game controllers->your_ALI_controller->properties->details->Matching Device Id
it should look something like these; PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5451&SUBSYS_0850103C PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5451&SUBSYS_0024103C PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5451&SUBSYS_002A103C PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5451&SUBSYS_0025103C PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5451&SUBSYS_0029103C
Don't do this if you are not familiar with stuff like this. I don't want to be responsible for you messing up your system:) (don't fix what ain't broken)
