Hi, it is simply impossible for me to upgrade my 2009.5 audiophile edition. 300€ each year are not justified for a non professional use. Peter Gannon said: "There is now a DVD option, for $99, that will upgrade your 2009.5 UltraPAK to 2010 UltraPak . This would be an alternative to getting the upgrade for $139 on an included 160GB hard drive."
Is this DVD able, with some work, to upgrade my 2009.5 audiophile edition to 2010, obviously loosing the new realtracks in wav format ? So I could upgrade my audiophile edition every 2-3 years. Thanks a lot Happy New Year Dr. Angelo Cappello Bologna, Italy

There was a mistake in my previous message. The upgrade is 299 dollars and not euros. I have an utility to convert during typing the dollar to euro (not present in my keyboard). I apologize. Best regards Angelo

Hi Angelo - welcome to the forum.
Yes, the upgrade you suggest would do exactly what you imagine. The audiophile version has nothing to do with the programme - only to do with the RTs and RDs. If you have not changed these, they will still be audiophile versions. The 'audiophile' version of the programme and the 'standard' version are identical

Thanks Sam, I suppose that the DVD contains also the new RT and RD in compressed format. Are they automatically installed in the right directory by an installer or should I manually copy the 101 NEW RealTracks and 3 new RealDrums Sets ? In any case, at the end I should have a sort of Audiophile 2010 with only the new RT and RD in compressed format. Correct ? Thanks a lot Kind Regards Angelo

When you run the Installer program, it will show you a window where the default is already selected to be the c:\bb folder.
If you store your RealTracks and RealDrums anywhere else, there will be a "Browse" button next to each place, you can use that to navigate to the drive and folder where you keep your RealTracks and RealDrums and it will install them there, alongside all the rest.
You can indeed put .wma files right alongside your .wav files and use both.

Thanks. I have decided to order the DVD. The on-line procedure says:
Please contact PG Music directly before December 31st, 2009 to purchase the $99 Band-in-a-Box UltraPlusPAK Upgrade from any 2009 UltraPAK, UltraPlusPAK or EverythingPAK.
* Tel: 1-800-268-6272 or 1-888-PGMUSIC (Within USA and Canada) * Tel: 250-475-2874 * Tel: + 800-4746-8742 (Outside USA and Canada where International Freephone service is available)
Two questions: 1) The upgrade is for UltraPak and EverithingPak users. I am an Audiophile user. No problems ? 2) How to order on line from Italy ? It does not seem to be available a page for such an upgrade.
Thanks a lot Kind Regards Angelo

Q1: No. That's right Q2: Order pageOK, that is the order page and it does state that you should contact PG direct for the DVD UltraPlusPak Upgrade. Quote:
This $99 DVD option isn't available to order online, as it is a special order. You would need to order this by phone 800-268-6272 or 250-475-2874 or email to sales@pgmusic.com or chat via the main pgmusic.com page.
Or PM Andrew
However, if you really want the UltraPlusPak upgrade then the USB HD is the route to go, an additional cost of $30 but you do get a 160GB USB HD with it. You could also save $30 by going for the DVD MegaPak upgrade.
Depends on what you are looking for

In upgrading from 2009.5 Ultra Pak to 2010, approximately how much additional hard drive space is needed? (I have about 15-20 Gig left on my C drive) - but i use a separate hard drive to save all my data.
thanks superkristen

My Everything Pak takes up 85gb on the shipped USB drive.
Maybe that will give you some indication, but I must warn you that you really do not want to "stuff" your C: drive full. That is dangerous. The drive your system lives on needs to always have about 10-15% free space on it at all times for running the Temp files that programs use, the disk swap/disk cache and for preventing wild fragmentations.
If you are that close, seriously consider a hard drive swapout to a larger C drive. Drives are getting kind of inexpensive today and many come with cloning softwares in the box that make not only the setup and formatting a breeze, they can clone your entire OS and all to the new drive in one mouseclick.

Angelo, I want to go back and revisit this. I think your understanding is correct, and this is how I think it works (no guarantees):
When you order the new regular/non-audiophile version of the update, you will get new Real Tracks and they will be in WMA format, which is the compression they use.
When you install the new Real Tracks, the installer should create new folders as appropriate under the X:/BB/Real Tracks folder. Assuming you specify the correct location for your Real Tracks (typically X:/BB) you will then have a mixture of folders. The new ones will have just .WMA sound files, and the older audiophile ones will have both WMA and WAV sound files (and both will have some other control files).
It is possible the installer may cause some older Real Tracks WMA files to be over-written by the new versions. Not sure about this, but if so, that is still OK, because when BIAB runs, it looks for WAV files and if it finds them, it uses them (otherwise, it temporarily uncompresses the WMA files on the fly). This means your old audiophile versions should still work. I think.
The one thing you would NOT want to do is use the Preferences, Real Tracks option to uncompress the WMA files, since it is possible the new WMA files might write over the older-dated WAV files, changing your audiophile WAV files to WAV files of WMA sound quality. Not certain of this, either, but be careful not to try it. You would not want to be the one to find out there may be no protection against doing that.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Roland Integra-7, Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Bloody GOOD point, Matt!
