I'm hoping that someone can assist me with this query.

I am a BIAB Audiophile user. Last year I only installed the 32 bit version of BIAB (despite the 64 bit version being available) because the free version of Amplitube that PG Music has shipped previously was only 32 bit and some of the realtracks with Amplitube guitar effects would therefore not work in a 64 bit BIAB environment.

I am about to install BIAB 2021 and I am wondering whether this is still the case or whether (and how) I can get hold of a 64 bit version of Amplitube.

Alternatively, can I install Jbridge to host a 32 bit version of Amplitube within a 64 bit version of BIAB?

Any advice or assistance gratefully received!

Many thanks

Regards, Aubrey

I don't know the answer to your actual question but the problem from your question may be solved by you installing both the 64 bit and 32 bit BIAB versions. There's a work around that may be a benefit to you.

Those realtracks with Amplitube guitar effects that don't work in a 64 bit BIAB environment should still work normally in the 32 bit version and you can construct tracks you want to apply the Amplitube guitar effects to in the 32 bit version and save those tracks with the Amplitude effect applied as Artist Performance Tracks. Close the 32 bit version of BIAB and open the SGU file in 64 bit version and those 32 bit Amplitude guitar tracks will load into the 64 bit version.

Converting a track to an Artist Performance Track is easy and to access the function:
. Rt Click on the BIAB Mixer Track with the Amplitude guitar
. -> Track Actions -> Save Track as Performance File (WAV/WMA)

An Artist Performance Track saves the track as an audio file (WAV/WMA) in the folder the SGU project is saved in. You'll be prompted to save the file is you haven't already.

That's it.

When you open the 64 bit version of BIAB, any Artist Performance Track you created with the 32 bit version will automatically be found and loaded into the 64 bit version and play over the SGU chord chart.

Artist Performance Tracks will respond to tempo and key changes but do not respond to chord changes. So it is best to finalize your chord chart before you render the Amplitude guitar parts in the 32 bit version. I would likely construct my song first and then apply the Amplitude effects last. Also be aware that if you have constructed your song and BIAB has generated the 'perfect' take for the guitar and you don't want to lose it just because you also want to apply the Amplitude effect to it. You can do that too. Simply save the version of the guitar track that's perfect but was created in the 64 bit version and you want to add the Amplitude effect that can only be done in 32 bit as an Artist Performance Track.

. Save that 'perfect' performance from the 64 bit BIAB version as an Artist Performance Track then open the 32 bit version and the Artist Performance Track will open and load into the 32 bit version as an exact, frozen copy of the 64 bit track... Apply the Amplitude effect and save that as an Artist Performance Track and BIAB will update the original Artist Performance Track with the Amplitude effect added to that 64 bit 'perfect' take.

Just a thought until the 64 bit Amplitude problem is resolved. By the way, this method should work with any similar 32 bit/64 bit issue and not only Amplitude.

Thanks Charlie,
That sounds like quite a bit of work and some forethought required to make it work but it might be the only solution that lets me move most of my work to 64 bit.

Let's see if anyone knows of a way of running Amplitube directly in a 64 bit BIAB instance.

I am not entirely sure what the benefits of the 64 bit are over the 32 bit version but my 32 bit version of BIAB 2020 was very slow in some processes (particularly rendering to WAV) and I was hoping that this might be a lot faster in the 64 bit version (but without any evidence! grin ).

i KNOW some (many ? lol.) will disagree with the following.
but what the hey here goes.
ive used biab for quite some time over many many years.
thus i know its many foibles. ive done a slew of songs useing it.
1. i use biab for bed traks initially laying down the song.
ie like an architect building the plans for a house.
i dont use fancy guitar plug ins initially. like amplitube.
or guitar rig or whatever is in vogue.
in fact i use no heavy duty plug ins initially while i'm laying out a song. even if the style has such.
i focus on a strong rhythm section.
one needs to build a good house foundation, before one focuses on all the pretty things on the outside of the house imho. to quote an old pro producer whose wisdom i once had the benefit of years ago. a real carmudgeon lol.
2. then i transfer the biab bed traks to a daw multitrack software.
3. after ive done all my guide vocs and the rest of the traks in the daw software.
(eg reaper/RB/whatever.) THEN
4. i go back to biab as a seperate project file with same chord structure of course, and then think about guitar lead breaks.ie the "fancy stuff on the house"
once i'm happy i then move those to the daw and possibly reinforce with my own guitar parts etc etc.
I ONLY EVER USE GUITAR PLUG INS in the daw multitrack
software, never in biab.

my opinion is, some guitar plug ins can be rather heavy on computer resources.
and as youve found out rendering time. no probs if one has a beast of a pc , but most people dont have such.

ive found my song creation life is easier this way.
in summary i dont use fancy plug ins, in biab , i use them in the daw software.
just a suggestion.

<< That sounds like quite a bit of work and some forethought required to make it work... >>
In order - no and yes

No - Not hardly work or time consuming at all - Very streamlined and straightforward.
Select the save as Performance Track
and open the opposite bit rate version of BIAB if that's your final version. Performance files can be saved and work with both bit versions of BIAB in either direction - 32 bit to 64 bit and 64 bit to 32 bit. The Performance Files convert the RealTrack to a regular audio file.

Yes - Forethought to decide what your end product is...

To avoid any confusion, saving a track as a Performance Track, every computer with BIAB installed regardless of year, CPU, Ram amount, or OS will have no issue or strain to your project. The version of Amplitude that ships with BIAB has been tested and intended to work with that BIAB version in my opinion.

It's just a consideration I offered that shouldn't require jbridge, a DAW or power PC.

It's not meant to be a permanent solution or replacement for having a 64 bit version of Amplitude. That's a legitimate request.

as always your tips are great.
but one reason i use the daw reaper is, i dont have to worry bout 32 or 64 bit. and bridgeing etc etc.
i'm sure other daws are the same.

for me i just find biab too "fiddly" with some plug ins.
in reaper its a "doddle". i just load up the plug in i want to use on the RT ive exported from biab. easy peasy. no fuss, no muss.
frankly also, i find the amplitube gtr sounds sorta ok, but they just dont get me wild with desire.
mind you, ive tried more than a few gtr plug ins, and nothing much turns my crank.

within reaper is a nice feature i use for roughing out gtr ideas. a lot of people arent aware of.
certain gtr amps models are built in eg tweeds /marshall/and other big name gtr amps.
https://www.homebrewaudio.com/reapers-virtual-amp-modeler-electric-guitar/
once again not perfect , but useable.

thus, lets take a lead gtr solo RT.
i edit and keep the best RT bits from biab. then i glue all the bits together of course.
i normally have a few traks for a lead break in the daw .
one the original RT edited from biab. ie dry.
then a copy on another trak or two with reaps own built in gtr amps.
then i experiment also , to build sound picture with some free gtr amp plug ins i have.
there are interesting ones by eg lepou, simulanalog etc etc and loads of others.
eg
https://www.kvraudio.com/product/free_amp_by_fretted_synth_audio

just google free vst guitar amp plug in. also search you tube. thus i dont bother with amplitube.

best.

jBridge converts from 32 to 64 bit as well as 64 bit to 32 bit. Also PG Music sells jBridge for less than the developer sells the product on his website. However, I'm not able to find the product link so you might want to speak with PG Music Sales about that.

JustAnOldMuso mentioned searching the internet for free amplifier sim apps. +++ HERE +++ is a link to KVR sorted by price. As you will see, many are free.

Hello Aubrey,

There are definitely some good tips above however I want to clarify a few things.

--> We used to include the free version of Amplitube 3. There are actually both 32-bit and 64-bit VST versions of Amplitube 3. You can use the 64-bit version with bbw64.exe, you don't need jBridge. However...

--> Amplitube 3 is old now and not offered as a download. You should be able to download Amplitube 4 from your IK Multimedia account instead.

I tested this just now and it worked great - you could:

1. Download and installed Amplitube 4. Pay attention to the "VST" location, since this is the one you want.

2. Run Band-in-a-Box. In the Plugins tab of the Mixer, left-click --> Choose Plugin.

3. Click [Add Plugin] and navigate to the location of the VST, typically in C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins. Add AmpliTube 4.dll.

4. It should now appear in the list of plugins as "<VST> IK Multimedia: AmpliTube 4"

One thing that is not going to work right off the bat if you were previously using AmpliTube 3, are the AmpliTube 3 presets. These can be converted to the version 4 format. In the plugin GUI, click on Presets and select the option to convert legacy presets.

muso, your tips are quite good also. However in this most recent example, your point wasn't clear that BIAB is powerful enough and full featured enough to complete the task with what ever PC was in use and with included plug-ins. The implication seemed to be a DAW is required to obtain satisfactory results and nothing is further from the truth. As easy it is to move tracks to Reaper for further processing, it's easier to do many DAW tasks in BIAB without the need to export/import files, then change your mind and have to redo the process if a RealTrack doesn't meed the needs in a song.

actually one issue with amplitube , is, it looked like it wanted one to go through an authorisation complicated process involving the net.
which means putting the studio pc on the net.
which i simply refuse to do. so i uninstalled it. this was early when i first got 2020 and testing things out.

i got plenty of gtr plug ins. dont need the hassle.

much as i love pg, and recommend to lots of people, cripes ,
(even in a restaurant i was at several years back to a musician i got talking to at a nearby table), i feel if they are going to include such a product , it should authorise itself when the biab original security authorisation process takes place.
which i did by phone after receiving the 2020 ultrapak drive.
other pg plug ins like dx, sforzando by comparison were a doddle. and i can use both in reaps.

also let me say i DONT have to go to/fro much between daw and biab.
just only occasionally. i just like the daw flexibility if i need it.
eg sometimes, useing a biab genned lead or my own lead, i might copy it to several traks in the daw, and then try various combos of gtr plug ins on each copied trak.
like a tweed on one trak, marshall on another, and yet a bassman on another, and then a dumble say, or my own gtr amp.
and also i have subtle daw automation features i can use
involving pans and vols etc . all sorts of added features, and various trak blending like say blending several gtr cab impulses etc etc.

merry xmas.

Hi Andrew,
Many thanks for the instructions above.

As it happens I had previously (some years ago) downloaded a version of Amplitube 3 from IK Multimedia as part of their 'Custom Shop' product - I just didn't realise it! The IK Multimedia website let me download it again from my user account area.

As you advised the download includes both a 32bit and a 64bit version so I was good to go and I have added the 64 bit version in BIAB as per your instructions (all seems good!).

Just for the record, I am not a guitarist (or certainly not an accomplished one!) and I never use Amplitube directly, but several of my favourite styles have 'effects' style guitar RealTracks that use the Amplitube plugin (presumably with presets that load with the style?) and I didn't want to lose access to them.

So far the 64 bit version of BIAB2021 seems a bit faster and a lot more stable than the 32bit version of BIAB2020. Not sure whether this is because I have moved up to 64 bit or whether 2021 is just generally faster and more stable than 2020 but I am happy to bank the win and move on!

Many thanks to all respondents for your support and suggestions!

Best Regards, Aubrey
