This morning I bought and downloaded the 2010 upgrade and since then, when I play a RealTracks, after 2 or 3 measures only the drums plays. Or sometimes nothing at all plays except the midi tracks. Does anyone has this problem ? Thanks

You should try build 291 http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#291If that doesn't work, let me know, but disabling Prefs-RealTracks-Speedup RealTracks generating is a temporary fix.

Build 291 did -not- fix this problem on my XP system. Disabling speedup did - but I assume I'm back to slow rendering times?

The RT background generation really caught me off guard. My machine sputtered until I disabled it. I see that BIAB is now defaulting to disable the background generation. RTs still seem to generate faster with 2010. No big deal here.

No issues here ... only problem I've had so far is changing reverb on RT's during playback. BIAB crashed one me doing that.
Maybe, 291 will fix that? Still backing up the PGMusic HD on two other drives. So, I will try again when done.

Just to tell I did the same I too disabled the background generation of realtracks. Now it works. I use Windows 7. All Realinstruments works.

hhs, sam: That's strange, must be something to do with DXi, Direct X version, Windows Media Player version, CPU chip etc. We'll sort that out, but in the meantime, try re-enabling the fast generation, confirming that you have build 291 (Help-About), and try using a DXi like VSC-DXi (Options-MIDI Drivers). If all that doesn't work, disable the fast generation.

Peter, as I said, everything works great on my new Win 7, i7 10G RAM system - incredibly fast as well - RT are almost instant! It was when I connected the drive to my slower XP system in my studio that the problems occurred. I did confirm that 291 was installed and re-enabled, no help. I'll try using DXi instead of my hardware MIDI interface and let you know tomorrow when I return if that works.

Sometimes you may have to disable fast generation of RealTracks, invoke the DXi synth (VSC DXi is the one I did) and then, reboot the computer.
Re-enable the fast generation of RealTracks, disable the DXi synth and then reboot again.
And then, it works as it should.
Why?
I dunno.
But you might give that a shot if all else fails.

build 291 seems to have solved it for me. I'm running XP sp3. In the process, I did discover that I'm having some dropout problems with the VSC DXi. That's not a biggie for me as I always use the SD2 anyway. But I'll research it some more, in case anyone else is having the same problem.

Re: MME or ASIO sound drivers?
Good call Mac. It's the ASIO (M-Audio). Switching to MME cleared it up. I switched back to ASIO and increased the latency to 15 ms and that seems to have cleared it up also. Thanks for the reminder.

I can´t to tell trully about it since I don´t have BIAB 2010 yet, but I remember sometimes getting some issues with some long RT generation when I runned BIAB 2009.5 with the Physical Address Extension (PAE) 3GB switch active in my Win xp (sp3), which I use for manage RAM beyond the 3 gb limitation on 32 bits (x86) OS. I would check it...just another idea if 291 don´t fix it on your case. Btw, I am getting better already of my dizziness and arm motion, can´t wait to get and try 2010 and bring some help whereb possible.
cheers.

My Band-in-a-Box 2010 is ok now, I downloaded Band-in-a-Box 2010 Build 291 but that was not good enough, I had to disable my Prefs-Speedup RealTracks. I hope that your gonna fix that problem because I would like to put back that option again so it will be faster to generate. Thanks anyway

Don't give up on it just yet.
Some have reported that after disabling the fast generation, rebooting, then re-enabling fast generation, that they have gotten it to work and stay working.
Others have reported that they also had to invoke a DXi synth like the VSC DXi, then reboot the computer, then they can turn the DXi back off and go back to their external MIDI synth (this after trying the above dance with the fast generation/reboot first) and that has made the fast generation work for them. Seems to work permanently afterwards.
Don't know if that is the case with all systems and situations, though. And I'm sure that development is on the case and will come up with a permanent coding solution to the problem soon.

This is why this is the greatest forum in the world!
I had the same issue with 2010 (build 291) of having the Real Tracks play for 1, 2, or 3 measures and then dropping out. Figuring that this is probably not unique to me, I went searching the forum for 2010 BIAB issues, found this thread and...
Issue rectified!
Thanks guys. Great joy in my household now.

Same problem here.
Bought the upgrade today and installed it. I see the same thing. Start playing a bluegrass realtrack file. It starts off just fine, around measure 4 the guitars and banjos drop out and by measure 7 all I have is the bass. Midi dropped out around measure 3. Did all the upgrades before I ran the program. Kept my old copy of 2009.5 on the hardrive in a different folder and it plays the same song with no problem at all, same as it did yesterday before the upgrade. Using the driving bluegrass style.
Seems to me after shelling out close to $500 for upgrades and packages since Aug, I should not have to jump through hoops, fixes, tweaks and so on to get this program to run right the first time.
Hope you guys in the back room can get an update out fast so all this tweaking does not have to be done. For a $29 program I would not complain but $500 is quite a chunk of change to lay out.

I'm sure they'll find a fix.
Meanwhile, it seems we may have found a way to make it work.
It is very difficult to get all the bugs out of a program with this many features and an almost unknown number of different setups, machines, operating systems, soundcards, etc. that are out there in the world.
The beta testing for this year was certainly the most comprehensive and exhausting of any I've seen and I've been inbolved with that for more than a decade now.
Sometimes development can't duplicate certain reported beta problems at their end, too, and if they can't duplicate the problem it can be impossible to arrive at a fix for the problem. Frustrating situation on all fronts.
BUT -- this is why we see the typical flurry of program updates every year at this time. Keep checking back and updating the program, this too shall pass.
As for the cost, just think about how much MORE would have to be added to the pricing if the time and resources were spent on the bug squashing in such fashion that nobody at all had any problems like this. I don't even know if such is really possible.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
