I'm trying to get the reverb to sound better during MIDI playback. Moving the Reverb mixer slider to 127 results in a weirdly claustrophobic effect. I've tried changing the reverb settings by going to Preferences/Reverb, but changing the settings there doesn't seem to have any effect on the mixer reverb, even when selecting the Arena preset.
I see there's a recent related topic here, but I don't think this is a version 818 issue as I've noticed this before.
QUESTION: Am I missing a step in adjusting Preferences/Reverb?
QUESTION: Is there a way I can use a dedicated reverb VST plugin instead?
Thanks.

In my case, I had the problem you're (I think) having with v814, but since going to v818 I'm not getting any reverb at all.
I think Andrew at PG Music is looking into my issue. It seems likely to be related to your issue, so fingers crossed we'll both get an update on it soon.
doesn't it depend on the synth you are using? when i was sending midi to an outside roland synthesizer the reverb was generated by the synth in response to the signal from BIAB and currently the soft synth i am using responds to the midi message from BIAB or RB using the reverb capability within the synth itself.
just as BIAB makes no sound itself - simply sending the midi info to the synth - it has no reverb capability apart from sending midi reverb instructions to the synth.
I'm just using the normal Windows one (GS wavetable synth). I've never had to worry about the MIDI settings before on BiaB - they've always been fine until BiaB 2021. Now I had the strange reverb problem with build 814, and no reverb at all with build 818. The only thing that has changed is my version of BiaB so it does seem that the problem lies there rather than anywhere else.
Hi Bob Calver, I'm just using BIAB's stock instruments/synths, nothing fancy. I've never looked into where BIAB gets its stock sounds. I typically use BIAB as a composition tool and then export the MIDI to my DAW Reaper. That said, recently I've been spending more time with BIAB and that's when I noticed this reverb issue.
I have some reverb VSTs I'm fond of and if there was a way I could employ one of these instead of BIAB's stock reverb that would be great.
I'm just using the normal Windows one (GS wavetable synth).
Are you sure you aren't using the Coyote DXi plugin synth ( check options | MIDI Driver Setup). Additionally are you selecting a plugin on a track individually, or just using the default plugin?
apologies if i got it wrong but certainly for my external roland synth the reverb was done within the synth itself. does it not work that way with the soft synths in BIAB? - particularly the TTS1. i know the roland had sysex messages to change the reverb type.
i know i can use the reverb plugins with RealTracks but have always assumed that midi synths has their own reverb capability going back to the days when BIAB was all midi
glad the OP got the problem solved - but has BIAB changed the way it copes with reverb on midi tracks since the old days?
has BIAB changed the way it copes with reverb on midi tracks since the old days?
No it hasn't changed as far as I'm aware. My MIDI reverb works as it always has. One of the updates, though, had a bug that needed fixing for this. I suspect that that's what has happened.
I also thought that it might be useful for XilburQost to gain a little insight into how to use effect plugins in BIAB.
thanks Noel, having checked my roland synth and the TTS1 (although my version is the edirol hypercanvas)both have their own chorus and reverb settings which seem to coincide with the BIAB defaults. the roland manual says midi controls 91 and 93 vary the settings.
glad i can continue as i always have - in cheerful ignorance!

Hi Andrew
It's definitely Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth and I'm using the default plugin.
I'll have a look around the other MIDI options as there seem to be quite a lot - maybe one of the other options will sort it.
