I am using RB with the external Keyboard Edirol PCR50 and the Midi Module SD20, both connected via USB to a PC/XP.
Most of the functions work well, but I have two problems:
1- I can't set my K/B to have a sound louder than the accompanying midi tracks.
2- In Midi Monitor, I can't see any Midi Input Event when I play my K/B.

Both problems don't occur with biab, under the same conditions.

Any suggestions.

Best Regards.

Check inside RB, Prefs->MID(6)->MIDI Thru and make sure Thru is enabled in the checkbox first.

You should see your playing on the big piano keyboard if the Thru is operating and going into RB properly.

Thank you Mac,
thru is enabled and I see my playing on the big piano keyboard and I hear the sound from my speackers.
But no events in Input midi monitor and no possibility to increase the volume of my play over that of the other tracks.

I don't know, but am thinking that you may not see any events in the mon like that.

Might only be visible at Playback after arming and recording a track.

Are the other tracks playing thru the same MIDi synth at the same time?

Have you tried Arming a MIDI track to record MIDI events from the keyboard yet?

**Is your keyboard set to send on ALL MIDI CHANNELS? -- You may be hearing crosstalk from another MIDi channel instead of the actual channel if your keyboard has been set to send on only one of the 16 and the track Thru is on another. I keep my keyboards here set to send on All Channels most of the time.

One quick check I do a lot is to disconnect the keyboard controller from the puter MIDI, disconnect the MIDI synth from computer MIDI out and connect directly from keyboard controller to MIDI synth input, to temporarily check that the basic setup of keyboard and synth are in fact operative. That often quickly helps me to isolate if the problem is in the hardwares or the puter softwares. But you've said that your setup works in BB, so this has got to be something going on with RB settings somewhere, or user operation. It does work here, with keyboard controller and external synths.

Mac, do you mean that in Midi Monitor Windows and with the filter checked to " only computer midi input", you can see the events you are playing?
I can see them only if I check the"Host program Output", but is not what I am looking for.
I am trying to see what exactly is sent from the K/B to RB, in order to understand why I cannot increase the volume of my K/B, with comparison to the other tracks.
Can you please check this on your system?

I just meant that my keyboard and MIDI synths all work and play well with RB here. Volume inclusive. The CC7 Volume slider on my keyboard controllers all work to control the volume of patches played in RB.

MIDI Monitor? In RB?

Do you really mean, "Event List?"

Yes, there is a "Midi Monitor" button in the first toolbar, the one that starts with " New, Open, Save,....".
If you open this window, there is a "filter" button, where you can choose Source, Channels, Events and Controllers to be monitored.
What I don't understand is that if I choose the "computer midi input" source only, I GET NO DATA when I play the K/B, even if I see the notes on the piano windows and hear them trough my monitors.

Got it. Should have opened RB and looked first, sorry. Didn't remember, and I've even used the doggone thing in the past.

Okay, opened up RB on the setup here, and I can indeed see note-on data as I play keys on my M-Audio Keystation Pro 88, on the Thru channel, in realtime. I can also see CC data as in from the Volume CC7 fader on the keyboard.

Perhaps there has been corruption of one of two critical files:

RealBand uses the files listed below for configuration. If you want to restore RealBand to the factory settings, you can delete or rename these files. The next time you launch RealBand, new configuration files will be created. This can help solve or troubleshoot odd and unexplainable problems you are having with the program. The files are found in the root RealBand folder, usually C:\RealBand. Important: You must have RealBand closed when you do this.

We recommend renaming the files (rather than deleting them) or saving a copy of them somewhere else on your hard drive so that you have a backup of your old configuration. For example, you could rename realband.ini to realband.old. Later, if you find that you need to restore your previous settings, you can delete the new realband.ini file that RealBand will have created, and rename realband.old to realband.ini

Note: Some people have trouble finding the files because Windows hides file extensions. In any folder on your computer, go to the Tools menu and click on Folder Options, then click on the View tab and make sure 'Hide extensions for known file types' is unchecked. On Windows 98/ME, the Folder Options item is found under the View menu.

REALBAND.INI. This file contains most of the global RealBand settings, especially the settings in the Options | Preferences and Options | MIDI Devices dialogs. It also has a list of the most recently accessed song files.

REALBAND.CFG. This file contains information about your sound card
The two files above contain most of your program settings; it is usually only necessary to delete those two files.

Try that, but carefully follow the directions.

Mac,

I do not see a realband.cfg file in my folder. I assume that RB.CFG would be the file to target in that instance?

I can read the content of a *.ini file with a text editor, what should I use for a *.cfg file?

It is not a straight txt file.

There are many files inside the RB folder that you cannot just "read" that way.

And even if you could, they would not make much sense, you'd be looking at an ascii rendering of machine code most likely...
