I am trying to enter lyrics in Realband and keyboard shortcuts keep getting in the way. Not sure why they are even enabled in RB. The learning curve on this program is pretty frustrating! Is there a way to disable shortcuts so it doesn't start recording or jump to the end or other such nonsense? What should be a 20 minute process has made me want to smash my computer and uninstall RB altogether. It's supposed to be fun.

As a general wish, it would be nice some of these posts had more accurate subject lines so it was easier to sort through them. Who has time to read through every post for some glimmer of info?

Sorry, guess my frustration is coming through....

IF RB starts recording when you type an "R" then the Lyrics entry window is not in focus, the main tracks window must be in focus at the time for that to happen.

Unless there's a bug or you've gummied up the settings or something like that.

Forum post titles are the work of whoever starts the thread...

But the forums shouldn't be your goto when you want to find something out, you should first use the Help file and its Search, the included .pdf manual and its Search and if all else fails, then try the forum. You'll get there a lot faster if you do.

I make sure that I have clicked on the notation screen and have positioned the cursor in the smaller lyric entry window. Is there another way to make sure that screen is "in focus"?

Once it gets in that mode, it doesn't seem to matter what I do - the shortcuts just continue.

Thanks for all of your patience and suggestions Mac! I do use the help file as a first stop but for ongoing issues, I hit "the boards".

All I can do at this point is to tell you that I just tried entering Lyrics from here and the R key in particular, it works as it should on my setup.

It is frustrating to not be able to duplicate someone's reported problem, for that makes it darn near impossible to figure the situation out.

If all else fails, you might try returning RB to factory settings, there may be a corrupted setup file in there somewhere from a previous crash, freeze, or work session:

Quote:

RealBand uses the files listed below for configuration. If you want to restore RealBand to the factory settings, you can delete or rename these files. The next time you launch RealBand, new configuration files will be created. This can help solve or troubleshoot odd and unexplainable problems you are having with the program. The files are found in the root RealBand folder, usually C:\RealBand. Important: You must have RealBand closed when you do this.

We recommend renaming the files (rather than deleting them) or saving a copy of them somewhere else on your hard drive so that you have a backup of your old configuration. For example, you could rename realband.ini to realband.old. Later, if you find that you need to restore your previous settings, you can delete the new realband.ini file that RealBand will have created, and rename realband.old to realband.ini

Note: Some people have trouble finding the files because Windows hides file extensions. In any folder on your computer, go to the Tools menu and click on Folder Options, then click on the View tab and make sure 'Hide extensions for known file types' is unchecked. On Windows 98/ME, the Folder Options item is found under the View menu.

REALBAND.INI. This file contains most of the global RealBand settings, especially the settings in the Options | Preferences and Options | MIDI Devices dialogs. It also has a list of the most recently accessed song files.
RB.CFG. This file contains information about your sound card
The two files above contain most of your program settings; it is usually only necessary to delete those two files.

Think I may have found the glitch Mac.

Lyric entry seems to work fine until I open the comments window. Once that has been opened, it doesn't matter what you do, the shortcut commands take over. I have to shut it down and re-open.

As long as I don't use the comments window prior to or during lyrics entry, I think I will be OK. I had pasted a bunch of lyrics in the comments so I wouldn't have to tab between two programs.

Thanks for your help.

Use notepad or wordpad and tab between for now as a workaround.

I think this one may be a BUG.

Going to find the time to see if I can duplicate at this end.

Good Troubleshooting and there's at least a workaround that does not require leaps through hoops of fire...
