It would be great if BIAB and RB could not only transcribe in standard notation and guitar tab but also have the correct fingerings. This would be possible because the MIDI guitar pickup can be used in MONO instead of POLY. MONO gives a separate MIDI channel to each pickup under each guitar string. The software would then interpret the correct fingerings because it could distinguish each string separately.

BiaB already has MultiChannel MIDI guitar.
Open the Guitar Fretboard View and hit the "Set" button on LH side.
Check "Multi Channel Mode"
The default is ch 11 for the first string.
B string is then MIDI ch 12, G is MIDI ch 13, etc. thru 16.
Once set, BB will Record and Play back on those separate channels, by the string.

Mac, I set my Roland to MONO (Performance data for each string transmitted individually, with each string using its own separate MIDI channel) and then selected the MIDI to 1 in the Fretboard View. This would correspond to my Roland. This only shows performance on the "A" string. Do you have this figured out already? I called BiaB and Ken didn't know what to do.

If all notes are on the A string in the software view and you didn't change the channel assignments for Multi Channel Mode from the defaults of the software, then your Roland right now must be sending all data on MIDI ch. 15 (the A string).
I think you should check the Channel settings for the Roland, set them up so that:
ch 11 = high E string
ch 12 = B string
ch 13 = G
ch 14 = D
ch 15 = A
ch 16 = low E
See if that doesn't do the trick.

Mac, the Roland doesn't go past MIDI channel 11. What I tried is to set the Mutli channel Mode to 1, the same as my Roland. That didn't work. I then tried setting the Roland to 11 and putting the Multichannel Mode back to 11 and that didn't work. Do you have it working already? Also was wondering if you play guitar. Yes, I also play keyboard and guitar. Started guitar "late" at age 13. Piano at 3 and Trumpet at 8. I'm pushin' 60 now. Two years to go. What long, strange trip its been.
I use a Roland GK2 pickup and an old early Roland synth (GR20? I forget right now but I think that's the one) just using the synth box for its MIDI output.
It works with BiaB, PT and RB just fine.
Mine works using the default ch 11 thru 16. I don't recall doing much inside the GR to get this to work, but will have to sit down with it and see in order to help you further.
What is the exact model number of your Roland synth? Maybe that can sort it out faster, if I can find a .pdf manual for it online.
Hang in there, don't get frustrated with it, these things are part and parcel of everything MIDI, it seems. I sometimes avoid attaching new MIDI stuff for that reason... (grin)
Good looking website you have there!

Hi Mac, I'm using the Roland GR-20 and the GK-3A. I would like to talk to you over the phone or on Skype or MSN Messenger to get this thing figured out. I teach guitar and make guitar instructional DVDs. If this is truly possible it would really help me do what I do and help the folks that learn from me. Here's my personal email dgabel70@gmail.comThanks for you help!
