I work in RB2010 with real tracks. (no midi )
The real drums generate excellent quality into a single track. So if I EQ that track, ALL the drums-kick,snare,toms,hi hat get the same EQ, panning, volume etc
Ideally I would like to split the kit into say 8 different tracks (type of drum rack) on my DAW so as to work with individual drums EQ, panning, volume etc
Can this be done with wave files or only midi?

The only way I can think of is to duplicate the Drum track 8 times and isolate the individual drum instruments using a multiple banded EQ. Providing this is possible then then other settings you require are possible.

Use of a multiband compressor plugin may help you here.

Duplicate the drum tracks three times or more and then apply a separate instance of the multiband compressor to each track, set one to emphasize only the kick, another the snare, etc.

This method will have lots of bleedover, of course, it is not going to be like having the pristine separately mic'd tracks, but even they suffer from the bleedover problem, too.

The ultimate for you may well be in finding another Drum generating software that puts the drums on separated tracks.

Personally I would use midi and a good drum sound source. There a many good sounding drum VSTi soft and hard synths out there.

It's called the Heineken Maneuver.

I use Jamstix for my drums when i want separate drum tracks and it does a 8 track output, that does what you want nicely.

jamstix is a plug in that will follow both wave and midi and actually jam to the tempo and such. The onluy problem is that in either RB or PTW, due to a timing issue it only works as a "dumb" drum machine, so it won't help with the audio drum tracks.

If you are making the drum tracks with RDs you can't use those to make a split track setup, and can't follow them with a VSTi drum plugin, as those are midi driven. Now if RB could solve the timing issue in the coding and allow Jamstix to "jam" along then you could use one of the audio tracks drive the plugin and make a separate track drum track. In most DAW programs, jamstix will even jam to no input using the temp of the track to drive it.

If you have Sonar, MC5 or something else, you can drag the RB tracks to it and allow it to do it's thing cause it links to those nicely.

GO take a look at www.rayzoon.com
