Does anyone with verifiable advanced BIAB skills produce custom arrangements? In other words, I e-mail you a chart and you e-mail me a killer Real Tracks arrangement for a reasonable fee?

Thanks!

It's been done.
I have done it for people, but it does involve some time, since 'killer track' is one thing in one person's eyes, and something else to another.
So sending things back and forth, making adjustments, etc., can take a bit.
I know others here have done it also.
When you say a 'chart' do you mean a BiaB file, or a set of chords with a style? Is there a working example of what you are looking for? Sometimes it comes down to a combination of Realtracks and a few musician recorded tracks to get exactly what you want, so budget and time constraints can come into play..

I am NOT an advanced skills guy in BiaB. Many people here much more advanced with that than I am.
Probably qualify in RB though.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Hi Jim,

Do you require a backing track or a full arrangement - using a melody line would infringe copyright

I do backing tracks - send me a chart or whatever you have with a description of what you want - tempo - key - style - choruses etc and I will give you a reply yes (with a cost) or a no

Thanks all for the replies. I meant biab file. I would fax or scan/e-mail a chart and would want a backing track (no melody) arrangement. I would pick a real tracks style to give guidance but if the arranger suggests a different/better one that would be cool. I would supply "feel" requirements...like..."bassa, swing the bridges" etc.

The arrangement would have to conform exactly to the contents of the chart in terms of repeats, DS al Coda etc., because there could be additional instruments playing along to the same chart.

I know enough about navigating biab that I don't think the above would take more than a half hour, so I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of $20.00 per arrangement and I would need 10 of them to start.

THANKS!!!!

Jim, don't forget to factor in the time it will take to upload each completed file, including preview takes in MP3 format sent back and forth. You will need to use a site that can host large files; they won't go as email attachments. And if it were me, I would probably spend that half hour per song just on mastering alone. I've been known to take up to a day to get one song just right for commercial use. A lot does depend on what quality you are looking for and what you intend to do with the tracks.

What *genre* are the tracks you want in?

thanks...good point re: mastering. But if I get a biab file, I can handle the mix and at least a little mastering after the vocals are recorded.

Purpose of the tracks would be demos, not commercial releases and possibly backing tracks for small venue gigs that normally can only afford a keyboard/vocalist.

This request is really a compliment to biab and what they've done with real tracks styles. In days gone by, some gigging musicians wouldn't have been caught dead using biab backing tracks. But now, they can be made to sound really pro-quality.

I can input the changes and experiment until I find the right style but I just don't have the time to get up to speed with intros, endings, repeats, DS and all that stuff.

Thanks all for your replies!

Best,
Jim

Back to Matt...I hand't thought about the size of the files. That clearly is an issue. Let me ask you this. If I could get an arrangement...just the basic chord sheet that would match an actual chart...maybe with keys/drums only, could that file be e-mailed?

Once I have a chord sheet formatted to match a chart, I can stumble around on my own picking a good real tracks style. I hope I am not exposing my ignorance of biab navigation which is massive!! (-:

Hi Jim,

Matt is quite right - an audio file is very large but it is fine to do the chart in Midi and you can then change the Midi to RealTracks at your end - this can be done by email

Put up a tentative list of 5 songs if you are shooting for standards. Heck I, and many others probably already have them. I often have the good ones in 3 formats, acoustic piano, keyboard with patch changes, and bflat horn or bflat horn and keyboard arrangements of the same song.

Now that I have a cool mic, a voicelive box, and a Bose system I'm starting to redo them so I have one in a key I can sing. Due to my very low voice that's a challenge.

ere ya go John. I've picked songs that I thought would be most likely to have already been arranged.

Meditation
Route 66
Summertime
Sweet Love
Somethin' to Talk About (Wanted a pop song in there somewhere)

THANKS for all the help!!!

Best,
Jim

PS: I'm sort of mixing my goals here.

Goal #1...To get backing tracks for a promo demo.

Goal #2...To get backing tracks for gigging in small venues that can't afford to pay a trio/quartet.

Goal #1 shouldn't be too hard. And I imagine that you and others might have killer tracks for some of the above. Or others that would work just as well.

Goal #2 gets trickier since she (my wife/singer) would want the tracks to conform to HER charts...to HER arrangements with 1st and 2nd endings etc. etc. etc. So, that is the scenario in which I would get a chart to the arranger and get back the biab arrangement that conforms to her chart.

At that point, I can mess around with the real tracks styles and get the finished product that way.

The reason I stared this thread is that I just don't have time to RTFM and figure out how to do all the things like...different endings..swing the bridges...etc. etc. etc.

Someday, I may be able to get up to speed with all the intricasies...but not any time soon.

Jim,

I will do it.
Send me you a chart, or basic BiaB file. Tell me what you want (how many choruses, style , tempo, key, intro, outro, type of back ground needed etc.) and I will send you a BiaB file of my arrangement.
To transfer it to Real Tracks I leave to you.
I will do the first arrangement for free?

Those of you worrying about sending large files please take a look at:

file transfer and allows you to easily send large files and large email ...)

THANKS Tonnie! I've been crazy busy for the past few days and will be for the next few. But what I would like to do is scan a chart of an existing arrangement, e-mail it to you and have you make a biab chord sheet with all the bells and whistles exactly as written. Disregard the melody notes. Just render the chords, rests, intro, endings, repeats, DS al coda etc just as written.

I will suggest a standard (non-real tracks) style and then will just convert it to real tracks when you e-mail me the file. I assume the file you would create would not be too large to e-mail...correct???

Please send me a private message with your e-mail address and I'll do the same.

THANKS!!!

Jim
