I love realband 2010. Had it now since mid-December. Everything has been working great until yesterday. All of sudden everytime I try to render a real track the program freezes. A yellow window pops up for about 1 second then disappears. The little CPU monitor in the upper right hand corner turns red and reads 99 or 100%. I have a 6 month old Dell Desktop running windows 7. I can't imagine how the computer could be the issue. I can't exit out without using the task manager - then I'm told realband is working on something and if I "end program" the system will crash. When I close it then open RB back it goes through a set-up sequence.
Tonight I have been able to drag tracks from BIAB using the "plug in mode" and the RB works until I try to render an additional instrument or a solo. I'm using Bluegrass styles and instruments.

Anybody help me fix this? Do I need to reinstall RB or something?

*First try defragmenting the C drive. Sounds like it is about time for that, just do it no matter what Windows reports as to its health, they weren't thinking about streaming audio when they wrote that bit of code.

*Reboot the computer. Many folks with laptops put them to sleep rather than wait for the reboot. This is not good for Windows, which needs to get all the ducks back in a row periodically.

No need to do a full reinstall if you try the following:

*How can I return RealBand to the factory settings?

RealBand uses the files listed below for configuration. If you want to restore RealBand to the factory settings, you can delete or rename these files. The next time you launch RealBand, new configuration files will be created. This can help solve or troubleshoot odd and unexplainable problems you are having with the program. The files are found in the root RealBand folder, usually C:\RealBand. Important: You must have RealBand closed when you do this.

We recommend renaming the files (rather than deleting them) or saving a copy of them somewhere else on your hard drive so that you have a backup of your old configuration. For example, you could rename realband.ini to realband.old. Later, if you find that you need to restore your previous settings, you can delete the new realband.ini file that RealBand will have created, and rename realband.old to realband.ini

Note: Some people have trouble finding the files because Windows hides file extensions. In any folder on your computer, go to the Tools menu and click on Folder Options, then click on the View tab and make sure 'Hide extensions for known file types' is unchecked. On Windows 98/ME, the Folder Options item is found under the View menu.

REALBAND.INI. This file contains most of the global RealBand settings, especially the settings in the Options | Preferences and Options | MIDI Devices dialogs. It also has a list of the most recently accessed song files.
RB.CFG. This file contains information about your sound card
The two files above contain most of your program settings; it is usually only necessary to delete those two files.

Another thing to look at is to see if FP.exe is hanging.
You can check in the task manager..
This is used to open and load files, but I have seen it get hung before..
After opening file or loading tracks, see if it is still running before attempting to generate a track.
If it is, try to end that process before proceeding.

reading your post I think we have the same problem the little yellow message that shows very briefly says

"Pause Message : The time for the beta has expired.
Expiry date is Feb 1/2010
Program will quit now ...[debug]"

Every thing works except generating real tracks or trying to open a biab song file from real band.

I'll let you know how I get on.

It's not Beta 2 is it?
That message would indicate the time ran out on a demo version, or a beta version.

Are you running it from the external hard drive, or on your main drive?

This is a very curious situation. I think I'll go fire mine up to make sure it isn't crippled somehow!

Update 2b fixes it .. did here anyway

I had been running it from the main DAW drive, which had the update, but when I tried it just now on this machine I ran it from the external drive and it crashed as described. I installed the update to the external drive and all seems well now.

If you have version 2 try the 2b update.

YES -- updating to "2b" fixed it here also just now.

Note that the Help->About still only reports a "2" -- no "b" appendage or suffix, so if you experience this problem the answer seems to be to download the 2b update and install it right overtop.

Good find, rharv!

Andrew nudged me to be sure I had the current update. They were all over it already..

That's one way to make sure everyone does the update!
SHould probably make a sticky for this and also list it in the fixes for the 2b update.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Turns out - all it took to fix the problem was downloading the update patches. PG support sent me a link. I downloaded it and installed and eveything worked perfectly in just a minute or two. Sorry, I just purchased the program a day or two before the 12/22 updates were posted. Didn't realize (or even think) there would be update patches so soon. If anyone hasn't done the updates - they are there ready and waiting to be downloaded.

Thanks again!

My RB was doing the same thing and the yellow message was so quick I couldn't read it,I worked with it for about half a day and couldn't fix it. I saw where 294b was available and that fixed the problem. occ
