Do you want to see today's miracle. I had a run in with my chainsaw, and thinking back on the accident while looking at my left hand, I know I should be missing the two cut fingers seen in the photograph. Instead, the Doc said the cuts were only 3 mm deep... Three millimeters deep after being whacked by a running chainsaw... Whow! The blessings of Psalms 91 immediately comes to mind. Thanks to my Father who had his angels watching over me.

Guy who worked for me wasn't that lucky. Missed his hand and got his throat. That's right there is why I've got chainsaw mitts, one pair here and the other at the cabin. Ballistic nylon on the back of the hand, and in the legs of my pants. Never needed them in 42 years, but....

Wow Jim, that is one scary picture. Thank goodness it's no worse than it is and let's hope for a speedy recovery. The last time I was out with a chain saw I came close to injuring myself with it. Can't be to careful with those things.
I'd be completely happy if I had just one more guitar.

Jim,
You are truly fortunate and should be thankful.
I keep my kevlar chainsaw mitts inside the case with the chainsaw, so if I've got the saw, I've got the mitts.

Chain brakes are now mandatory. My big Husquavana has been retrofitted with one. Pain in the butt at -40, if you get snow in there it means you have to thaw it out.
I know for a fact that hurts the most on day 3.
Hope you don't fret too much....

I played some last night with no problems except for some blood oozing out from between the stitches. Definitely I will pick up a pair of those specialty gloves mentioned here before using the chainsaw again.

Wow, close call indeed, Jim.
I'd be praising Him all over the place, too. *g*
I no longer have nor use the chainsaw, having moved into an apartment complex where younger folk take care of all that, but I kept my kevlar gloves when I sold the tools in the shed off. Might come in handy again. Besides, they have other uses, such as in the discipline of unruly youth, etc. The kevlar backhand...
Let's be careful out there.

Two years ago we built an addition to our house, added 1100 square feet upstairs. During construction one of the carpenters lost his index finger to a table saw. ER doc told him they could reattach the finger, but it would require 6 mos of therapy barring any infection, and they stil couldn't guarantee that all the nerves would still function.
OR, they could sew up the stump and he'd be back at work in 6 weeks. He told them to sew up the stump. Lost his finger at 11:30, came back up to my house at 5:00 to get his standard shift pickup truck and drive it home. One tough hombre.

That reminds me of the time I yelled "Don't put your hand" . .. . but it was to late. One of my Carpenters shot a 16 penny nail through 3 of his fingers. The nail went under index, over middle and under ring fingers. Took him to ER and x-ray showed it missed all 3 bones, thankfully.
Doc shot him up with Lidocaine and grabbed a pair of plyers. I helped hold his arm down while the Doc climbed ontop of the table and literally had to yank the nail out.
He was back at work the next day with a swollen hand. I kept him away from the nail gun until his hand was better.
I am glad you have your fingers. That was a close call.

Back when I was a young carpenter, I witnessed one of the older guys nailing a corner together, along with himself.
It was a 'stud-block-stud' corner and he had his hand under one of the blocks, which allowed him to nail thru his hand and two pieces of wood (on on each side). We offered to either sawzall the corner chunk out and go to the doc with him still nailed in it, or we could pull the nail while he tried to take the pain.
He opted for choice #2, as he didn't want the embarrasment of showing up in the ER looking like an idiot. He clenched down on his bandana and another guy pulled the nail as fast as he could. He was back at work later in the day and took all the ribbing in stride.
A month later he fell off the roof. Some people are more accident prone than others.
Glad to see OP will keep his fingers OK. Worst I ever got was a cut from a razor knife; didn't even need stitches. Duct tape and a napkin!
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Man, these stories show what a bunch o' tough ol' birds hang out here in the forum! I'm half surprised nobody said they just used wood screws to fasten a cutoff member back on!
Compared to y'all I'm a big wuss... worst repair job I ever did was to use super glue and a piece of my blue jeans to hold a big gash together while I finished my shift at work.
note: if you ever see something big, heavy and sharp starting to tip over, don't try to catch it. Just let 'er drop. (They'll buy another one.)
