Can someone please refresh my memory why when saving a "song as" the folder reverts to Realtracks - Demo? Even if I just saved the current song to the correct folder location it doesn't remember where I just saved to when I save as again. Do I have that folder set as my default folder to save files to? There are many places to look for such a setting but I have yet to find it.
Any tips would be appreciated.

You can click the folder icon with the heart in it.
Any folder you click on should be the active one when you click on Song.
Unless you have checked always open this folder in the Song Picker window, that's also where the play when chosen box is hidden so people get on here and scream when it's checked.

Thanks John.
I have no idea what you are referring to about the folder with a heart in it. I do not see it anywhere.
I'm not sure what you mean about the Song Picker window either. I guess I only use the parts of the program that I am familiar with and don't venture into the unknown to me parts. I do intend to experiment more in the near future though.
I closed BIAB and reopened the song and save as now goes to the correct folder. I guess I will have to save it once and then close and reopen BIAB to remember where to save as.
Thanks.

There are icons across the middle of the screen. Some can be added or subtracted. There are 2 pull down menus on the far right to do this. Amongst the 20 or so icons that are standard is one which is a small square like the rest, but the icon is a file folder with a heart in it. This keeps all the folders you have visited with band in a box that contain a file that was built to denote which songs you have. So if you have 20 folders of band in a box songs, they will all be there, (after you open the first song in that folder).
The Standard way to open a Song is not File -> at the very top like in most applications but through the Square beside the large title of your song. That opens the Song Picker menu and gives you an alpha listing of the songs in your present folder, unless you click on one of the columns at the top and change the sorting, ie, looking for songs by style etc.

Thank you for the the information, John. I really appreciate your help.
I wasn't using the File->Open method but instead clicking on the Open icon. I see that there are a few different ways to accomplish the same task. Sometimes with different results.
I found the Favorite Folder you mentioned. It was hidden off screen.
I also found the Song Picker button. I had never used it before so it had to prepare the list of songs. That is a nifty feature.
Thanks again.

Sorry, John, no. That doesn't work.
Clicking the Heart only creates a list of favorite folders. (Unless you can show otherwise.) It does not create a default data folder ... something I have asked for ever since I first started using BiaB a million years ago.
Do these steps:
Click on the Heart, browse to any folder and click OK. Go to Browse Styles with Info. Select any Style and select Load Song Demo (which should really read "Load Demo Song") Let song play for a few bars, stop and click on Save As The folder that comes up is NOT the folder you browsed to before.
There needs to be, as in almost all other applications, a Default Path.

Well, I've got 30 folders of songs and have no problem with that issue. I just change directories by using the I heart folder and picking one. They are all there.
I can see someone wanting to do a favorites file, but you'd need to make an icon for one and stick to it. I wonder if you open Band in a Box as a link to an icon in your favorite folder if that would work. I must try that when I get to a Windows box instead of the linux one I use all day...

Well, yes. I have lots of folders too.
But if one were able to set a default (the root of all original songs let's say) at least one wouldn't have to navigate all around the place each time Biab went to the \bb folder or the Demo Songs folder.
Make sense?

I don't see how that would work. Say you wanted to audition files new styles. Everytime you tried one you'd end up back at the 'default'? This would drive new users especially, bonkers.
I work in folders. So the genre is there. Trying to put on the old programmers hat, the best I can figure is the favorites folder. I do however have folders that I use for work, sets, and rendering.

Note that at the bottom of the song picker there is a check box. Always open in this folder.
I sort of didn't mention that on purpose. I think it's odd. But there it is. Right in front of one's nose, near the 'play when chosen' dialogue.
Go for it.
