Forgive me if this has been mentioned before.

I just noticed in BIAB 2011 that cutting a chord from a measure does not paste in another measure properly. If I cut a chord it does not paste anything whatsoever. If I copy a chord it does paste accordingly. When I cut another chord, it merely pastes the previous copied chord.

Anyone else have this issue? Am I missing some setting somewhere to prevent this from working properly?

Thanks.

Just to clarify, are you using the Edit Menu's Cut or Copy and Paste, or the keyboard shortcuts? Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V

Or are you using the mouse to highlight the chord?

Thanks for replying, Matt.

I have tried using the mouse to highlight the chord, then using Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. I have also tried right clicking the mouse for the cut, copy, and paste functions as well as the Edit Menu. None of them work here properly except the copy function in all three methods.

I can confirm that there is something to your observation.

At first, cut and paste worked correctly until I used the mouse to highlight just one measure. Then I used both Ctrl+x and also Edit, Cut and each time, the next paste gave me the bars that I had last copied, not cut. This might be the correct behavior, though. This from Help, Edit Menu:

Tip: Remember that the copied section remains in the clipboard and can be repeatedly used. Example: If you're inputting a song with verse, verse, bridge, verse you can just copy the first verse to the clipboard, and then repeatedly paste in the other verses. The information on the clipboard remains intact even if you load in a new song, which means you can copy and paste between songs.

I noticed there is a difference in what Cut does depending on whether the measure is highlighted, or just with the mouse cursor there. When highlighted, it deletes the measure and collapses the song. When it's just the mouse cursor, only the chord is erased.

I'll try more tomorrow.

Thanks for checking it out, Matt.

It appears that cut will only paste if the measure(s) is/are highlighted and then it will collapse the song as you indicated.

For instance I open BIAB and try to paste in bar two. Nothing happens of course because nothing has been put in the paste buffer. I select the first chord but not highlight the measure and cut it and it removes the chord but does not enter it in to the copy/paste buffer so it is unavailable for pasting. If I copy selected chord or highlighted measure it pastes as expected.

It seems just a little odd to me but I can work around it.

Until your post, I don't know if I ever even used the 'Cut' command in almost twenty years of working with this program. Copy and Paste do it for me.

I don't usually worry about what a program does as long as its behavior is consistent. In this case, I haven't decided yet. It's on my list for more tests. If it helps, I recall some discussion in beta testing last summer about this.

I do not recall noticing any different 2011 behavior with pasting chords.
But I will experiment this weekend.

I do have issues with how BiaB pastes chords, but they are not specific to 2011.

There are a lot of combinations. Highlight, don't highlight. Use the keyboard shortcuts, the menu, or the right-click. I too would not notice any change if I just used the same method all the time.

I use the copy & paste a LOT when building songs. Then. & I wonder how many know this. Click and drag a part marker then drop it were you want & it'll copy /paste the whole section between part markers. makes things fast for building songs.

Just need to learn were to drop the section. If you have a song built that is verse then a chorus and decide you want another verse just click and drag the part marker for the verse and drop it on the first measure of the chorus and it'll insert another verse. Very,Very slick.

Didn't know about dragging the part marker either. Cool. Thanks.
