Hi everyone.
First off, I'm using version 2008.5 for Windows. I'm having difficulty extending a note value through three bars. The software will only let me tie two notes together, by default. As an example, the first bar ends in a 1/8th note. The following bar has a whole note followed by a 1/4 quarter note in the following bar. How do I tie these three notes together? I've tried extending the duration in the dialog box, but this only seams to apply to the note in that bar.

I assume you are talking notes on the melody channel? If so, open the Piano Roll and see if you can "drag" the note(s) in question. Make sure have selected the B,D,P,G,S,>>>("M")<<<< in the piano roll  Trax

Yes, the melody channel. I tried that approach earlier. Still no help. Any other thoughts?

The notes are in midi, right? I just entered a single note and drug it for 8 bars and it worked. I had to change the patch to strings in order for it play through those bars. The piano only lasted two bars and decayed out.
You should be able to "drag" any midi note in the piano roll to however many bars you want. You will need a sustaining type of midi patch in order for it to play those bars as well.
You could also try the notation entry. R-click on the note(s) in notation-edit-mode and change the duration of the note there as well. That should yield the same as the drag in piano roll.
This will not work if you are using a Real Track on the melody channel, only midi data.

It also may not work if you are trying to drag out the length of one note past another already existing note or two or three.
Try deleting those already existing notes first, to make room for the long one, then try extending the target note.

Thank you everyone for your help. I opened in editable notation, deleted all the notes after the first one. Opened in piano roll, right clicked on the first note and changed the duration value to five (the last note is a half note). Reopened in regular notation mode and it's right. Thanks again.  Randy Note: When printed, if Fake Book is selected, the ties before and after a repeat will not appear.
