I upload a photo that is within spec, [ 64kb ] I click change at the bottom of the `navigate to photo area' after up loading file. I get a screen asking me to: Use This Avitar, No Avitar. or Cancel. These choices are lumped together in what looks like Three pieces of trailer park blue plastic tape with embossed letters. They can not be selected individually. So I click the damn page and it dissapears. When I go back to the page and do it all over I have to go back to the page and do it all over I have to go back to the............ picture Belushi grabbing his throat and falling behind the desk at the utter banality of it all. When I tried to load a reasonable guality picture I got the kb cops and a citation for too large a photo. There no such feed back now it just does not function. Am I doing something wrong?

Ron,
I think you may be mistaken about the 64k being in spec...I had to reduce my avatar to 61x79 px and 20.8k to get it to appear...

Also, there is no size limit if you put your image/avatar in a external URL like a host web site. I enjoy to design animated gifs, mine size is nearly 400 kb.

IIRC I read 80 or 84 kb somewhere on this site. When my first attempt was 131 kb I got a msg. saying it was over spec. That may be where I got the figure. I get no msg. now just no result.
Carlos, I don't have a host website except my page on myspace. I'm not real up on all the ether bells and whistles. Is it possible to put a link to a photo on myspace and not have to dumb it down to size?

I just checked I was quoting the pixel size [80]instead of the kb size. So you guys are correct. Thanks for your help. I'll try to make the quality bad enough to pass the kb cop.

Use gif format and the size will be much smaller, just 'save as' a gif file.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

The DIMENSIONS of an avatar can be up to 80px (pixels) by 80px. The SIZE of the image is limited also, if you are uploading the image to our server - it can be up to about 8 KB. An excellent quality 80x80 JPG file is typically under 7 KB, so the size limitation shouldn't mean you need to make a poor quality image.
An 80x80 PNG file could be over 8 KB (the one I just made as a test was 12 KB), but even though PNG is lossless there wouldn't be much noticeable difference in quality between that and a JPG, as far as an avatar goes.
