Hi, Thought I would start a new thread rather then contining my previous one. I now have my Yamaha PSR 340 connected to my PC using a MIDI cable. Thougt I should now be able to record something on a track in Poewr Tracks. When I select record it gives me the countdown and then I start playing my keyboard, nothing happens. No recording, nothing. Pretty much the same issue when I was trying to record something with keyboard in the app. Looking in MIDI devices I have USB Uno MIDI Interface as an input driver, if that even means anything. I was thinking, install PowerTracks, plug in MIDI, record something. Looks like this program does not work that way. Jeff

You understand that you are recording just the MIDI, right? Did it ask to 'Keep take' afterwards? If it did, it recorded, if it didn't something is not connected correctly.
Is the Uno highlited, and the only one highlited in the input device selection? Is the MIDI out from keyboard going to MIDI in on the computer (this one catches all of us once or twice)?

Hi, Thanks for the quick response. OK, nothing was highlighted. Highlighting the uno got this working. Thanks Jeff

Hi, AFter my previous post I tried to do some more recording and it does not work again. This time the uno input device is highlighted. Confusing, worked for one time. Jeff

Is the track you are recording to a midi track (not audio)?
Have you tried rebooting? Did you move the USB connection?
Some of the USB to MIDI devices install and get 'stuck' on that port. If you moved it,reboot and move it back, or re-install the driver. If you re-install the driver wjile plugged into a different port, be forewarned you may end up installing multiple instances of the driver. I *thik* the Uno is one of the devices that has had this issue with being on a different port.
Otherwise, double check the settings. If it worked before, something changed..

Hi, Got back trying this again. Rebooted, tried changing USB ports, no difference. Does not record. Track type is set to MIDI. Selected Input Driver in the MIDI Driver Setup is the USB Uno. I wonder why when I right click on the Track box it says Port 1 is a Microsoft MIDI Mapper. It recorded 1 time. I stopped. Started record again, never recorded since. Changed nothing.
One would think that I could plug in my keyboard, it would detect that and work. Getting a bit dissapointed in this program Jeff

If the tracks say Port 1 is MS MIDIMapper, that's the MIDI output, not input.
What about connections from Keyboard to MIDI, did you double check the connection so the cable has Keyboard out going to Uno (computer) IN ? Can you check that the Uno is functioning in another program? In Pt the keyboard at the top should display the notes you are playing if it is working correctly ..
Only other thing I can think of is maybe you enabled the Punch-In function and are trying to record where it is not 'punching in'.

This cable has an a MIDI out and a MIDI in. I have those connected to the keyboards MIDI out and MIDI in, out to out and in to in. There a 3 LEDS on the cable, USB which keeps blinking, MIDI out and MIDI in, neither ever lightup. Not sure what software I could use to test the keyboard or the cable.

In power tracks there is are VU meters. If I have those up and play something on my keyboard the meters move, which seems to indicate to me that power tracksis getting input from my keyboard, but it is not showing up in the recording tracks.

Try switching connections at the keyboard such that keyboard Out connects to computer In and computer Out connects to keyboard In. Outputs go to Inputs.
Also make sure that you have a way to hear the audio from the keyboard, either built in speakers or a stereo audio cable set from keyboard audio out to soundcard line in.
Then set the MIDI In and Out to the physical designation for the keyboard and make sure that "Use DXi" is not checked if setting this as the default in Prefs.

Does the keyboard at the top of PT show notes being playd as you play keyboard?
Do VU's show signal on input side or output side?

Thanks to both of you for the good advice. Through doing some of the above I think the problem is not PowerTracks. I had it working for a while again, turned the keyboard off and back on, and it did not work again. Seems like either the MIDI out from the keyboard is intermittent, or maybe the keyboard needs to hear from the UNO driver on the PC to work. Not sure on that last part. I wonder if anyone in this forum is using a Yamaha PSR 340. It looks like maybe the MIDI out from the keyboard just does not keep running. Jeff

There may just be an order to powering on. Maybe the Uno needs to be running before the Yammie is powered on, or the reverse. Could be a quirk in the keyboard where it either needs to see the Uno at startup, or it needs to boot first and then be connected ...
or it could be the Uno that needs to be connected to a live device, and not boot up to a dead connection (which possibly causes it to stall)
just guessin' at this point

From past experience from another board forum, i have found that SOME Yamaha kbs only work with Yamaha midi cables. Not all mind you but some are like that. Don't really know why, but true.
Also Mac was on it when he said that you need to make midi out of Keyboard to Midi in on computer and vice versa.
Lastly shut every thing down and make sure of all connections and turn on Keyboard, interface, and then boot computer so at start up it sees everything.

Hi, I am heading out the Guitar Center this weekend where I bought the cable and see what they think. Also, the cable terminates in a usb plug, not sure how to do the MIDI out MIDI in with that. Unless there is some setting in PowerTracks that can determine that. Jeff

USB to midi has in/out only on the keyboard end.
If it is a generic cable that might be the issue, with a Yamaha board.

Also, a USB connection to MIDI must be made and recognized by the OS *before* starting the host program.
You will have no results or mixed results if the program is already open before you plug in the USB device.
This is because the host program "looks" for the MIDI inputs when the program is first opened. If no USB is connected, it won't "see" it,

Hi, Problem solved. Went to Guitar Center and bought a new keyboard, Yahmaha YPG-235. Installed drivers that came with it, workds great. Now its time to make use of PT. Thanks for all the help on this issue. I am sure I will be posting more Q's as I start using PowerTracks. Jeff
