An important point for you, just to make sure you grasp the concept.

When you use the term 'render' you end up with the sounds from your DXi synth, not that nice synth you have hooked up sometimes. 'Render' means a process being with the DXi synth by definition. So if you use any process called 'render' you switch to the DXi synth.

I'd really suggest that a certain point (when 'Joe musician' takes over and you start to be concerned about recording good tracks) you switch to RB and record each sound from the Roland synth to it's own track. You would get so much more control and have better sounds that way.

Just a suggestion.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

If our lost companion "Ivan Dragomir" hadn't starved to death in the famine, I'd suspect he might be back again.

Nah, I don't think that. BiabGuy is legit, he's not trying to scam us like "Ivan" did. He needs some direction and a little education, that's all.

I hope that is true. I went round and round on a similar problem months ago, at which time I discovered the lightning problem. All bets are off once that happens.

Thanks for helping out!

Of course I'm happy whenever people educate me on BIAB's functions.

All I know is that when I went into the Render to Wav screen a couple of days ago I had:
1. Disabled DXi synth
2. Hooked up my Edirol to my Roland Midi synth
3. Was able to successfully make a (Re) Render to wav file.

Now whether BIAB was actually fooling me, and really used DXi despite my above settings,
I'm no expert to affirm this.
But if you say that's what happened, I'll believe you.

As for the other folks who have been on a posting blitz here and in my other threads...
1. I am not Ivan. I don't know who the guy is.
2. I have very thick skin.
3. Not everyone takes their audio recordings as seriously as you may think they should.
4. I don't take my audio recordings too seriously.
5. I don't and never will use my Logitech camera mic for audio recordings. It just shows up here and there because it's currently the only device listed under Windows/Sound devices. When I plug in my Edirol UA-25EX
it also shows up under Windows/Sound devices.
6. The replacement motherboard that many are encouraging me to go ahead and use is IDENTICAL to the one I'm currently using (6 year old model), minus the lightning strike.

Once again, I thank those who offer their help to me here.
If you don't want to try to help me, it's your choice.
But it's really not necessary to make a post saying "I won't be helping you anymore until/unless..."

Yes, many of us are encouraging you to go ahead and install the replacement motherboard. If you still have unusual problems, then we will have ruled out the lightning-struck hardware. Although it's old, your new motherboard has one huge advantage: Windows should not balk at the replacement, and you may be able to get away with not reinstalling and re-authenticating Windows.

Good luck!

Thanks Matt, I will consider it.
Yes I also thought that since the board/hardware will be the same, Windows may not complain when it sees it.

BBG, one thing i want to add. If you have hums and sound issues with the edirol, and Tannoy speakers you have other issues. I have M-Audio monitors on my m- audio card, and i would never in a million years think of mixing music on Cheapo computer speakers again. Those are the one i hear hum and buzz and bad audio in. Good monitors like Tannoy should be clear and clean.

No one thinks you are recording with a logi cam, but you did tell us you use a logitach mike. As far as taking audio seriously. If I don't take mine serious, who else will. Anything worth doing is worth doing right. No one here means to belittle you, we want to help. But if you do not take it serious, why should we. You want to record and get good results, but do not want to really make the effort to do what folks suggest.

I can't imagine using a computer that had been damaged by a electrical surge, to the point that stuff was not functioning properly, then ask folks to help me fix a problem. That is like towing a broken down car to a garage and asking for an oil change.

You get the level of results from the level of effort put into it. Rebuild your system so it is fully functional, and then let's all dig in and solve any leftover problems.

With the time already spent (wasted?) messing around with a mobo that has taken a lightning strike (!), you could have replaced that mobo with the other one ten times over, man.

If it is a case where you are not sure about how to go about swapping mobos reliably, consider getting the aid of someone who knows, even if it means taking the computer and motherboard to a mom and pop computer store or the likes. Don't overlook the younger set that may be around you as well, many of 'em can swap a mobo in their sleep, they grew up with the PC...

But in any case, you certainly should change that motherboard!

Until you do, continuing to post problems you encounter will not likely resolve the situation.

When you do replace that mobo, you most likely will get a reminder about authentication of Windows - a motherboard is one of the major triggers for that - but you shouldn't have to reinstall Windows. For all of the badmouthing that people do about Microsoft, I've never had any trouble getting them to re-authenticate when changing out components that trigger it.
Before you start the swap - backup your stuff that you want to keep just in case. Then go for it. It isn't that hard and very educational.
Good luck.

Allow me to clarify here.
I have extremely sensitive hearing. I can't use 7200 rpm hard drives because the high pitched whine bothers me. I can't use many new CPU's because I feel the high frequencies in my head (pressure in the temples).
The hums/sound issues I'm having when I connect my mixer/amp/Tannoy speakers are as follows.
First, the power adapter to my Roland SC-55mkII is old and gives off a slight buzz that bothers me.
Next when I fire up the mixer/amp/Tannoy speakers, the combination of those parts and their power transformers gives off a slight hum. Most people on this board would not even notice it. I do and it bothers me. That's the reason I use my el cheapo Logitech speakers for my computer work. They just give the music/sound signal with no low end hum whatsoever. I like that.

Let me clarify once again. I have Logitech speakers that I use and I also have a Logitech camera.
The camera has a built-in mic. I use the camera and mic only when I am doing Skype chats etc.
I never use either the camera or the mic when I do music with the computer. I'm not that dumb!

I do take my music very seriously. But recording/audio is another matter. I don't take it nearly as seriously as most folks here apparently do. Thus I don't go out and buy an expensive system and devote it exclusively to music. Nor do I rush out to repair a system that is functioning just fine for most things that I need to do with the computer.

I have a better analogy. Why throw out the baby with the bath water?
I have gotten rid of the dirty bath water and replaced it with good clean water.
Fortunately the strike was confined to:
1. Cable modem
2. Router
3. LAN port #1
4. My USB ports (they took about a year or so before they kicked the bucket)
The USB ports are housed in the same casing as the LAN ports.

I replaced the modem and router. I am using LAN port #2 now. I bought a new USB card recently.
The rest of my system is functioning very nicely. The sound card actually functions, when its drivers load properly (which is not too often). Because I couldn't get the two to work reliably, I went out and bought my Edirol UA-25EX a year or two ago.

It's funny, but with all of this ganging up on my system, each and every one of my BIAB problems that I've had over the past couple of years (including recently) have all been fixed!
And NOT A SINGLE ONE of them was attributable to my lousy computer system!!!

I haven't spent too much time on the mobo since the strike. It was mostly replacing the external components (see above).

Now this might come as a shock to you Mac and most of the other folks here on this forum.
I actually built my present computer system from scratch!
