With PT12, has anyone eles experienced loss of drum parts during playback of KAR files?
It not an actual loss of drum data but parts just don't play.
Increasing the resolution makes it worse---decreasing the resolution makes it better.

What synth are you using to play the drum tracks?
I use Jamstix for midi drums and found it failed to play certain drums in playback, then i read somewhere to click the GM map button in JS and it played back all the drums.

I've been going back and forth with Tech Support. BIAB (and other GM players, including MS Media Player and VanBasco's MIDI Player) play back the files perfectly but PTPA12 drops drum beats, even though you can see the beats being executed in the Drum Kit window.
This is really screwing me because now I can't use PT live. I need the multiport capability to send out MIDI messages to a chain of devices. PT has the multiport capability, BIAB does not.

Hello,
What MIDI driver are you using in PowerTracks (Options - MIDI Devices)? What is Windows Media Player using? (if Windows XP, usually will use the MIDI playback device selected in Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices). It sounds like the synth you are using in PT doesn't have those drum sounds. Find out some examples of notes (e.g. C4, Eb3...) that don't play. To do this, you can look at drum track notation window, and right-click on a note in editable notation mode.

Everything was using MIDI Mapper - MS Wavetable Synth. I still don't know what the problem was, but I did just find a quick and easy fix. Here's a posting I sent back to PG support:
I just found a simple workaround to the "missing-drum beats" issue that we have been corresponding about.
Edit->Quantize->(Check/select) Durations->set resolution to 32nd (as small as possible?)
The file finally played back perfectly in PT, and I'm just happy that PT had a feature that simply addressed and remedied the problem, because a lot of it's other features have proved invaluable to me and my band mates.
Thanks again for hanging in there with me.
Sincerely,
Stan
P.S.: I just duration-quantized the GM drum track (Ch10). Very quick and easy to do when the file is first loaded/reloaded. Naturally, you have to save it after the quantize.

Likely the original file was done on a sequencer that recognizes drum notes of 0 duration.
You got 'r done.

Mac: The durations were "5" but multiple notes with that duration and the exact same start times. I will keep an eye out for possible "0" duations, so thanks for that insight! In any event (no MIDI pun intended), I discovered it was not only the structure of the file and the way that the playback engine of PT handled it, but also something in my PTW.INI and PTPA.CFG files, subjects of a deletion suggestion from product support. IT'S REALLY NICE TO KNOW THAT PG PRODUCT SUPPORT, ALONG WITH USERS ON THIS BOARD, HANG IN THERE WITH YOU!
I just sent this to PGsupport:
BTW, your suggestion to delete the PTW.INI and PTPA.CFG files must have played a part in the "dropped-drumbeats" solution, even though just deleting the files had no effect. After hitting upon the Quantize-duration fix for the problem, I later restored my old ini and cfg files and the dropped-beat problem reappeared. Then, as soon as I deleted the ini and cfg files and restarted PTPA12, the problem again went away. It appears that the combination of the two steps was necessary to solve the problem.
I'm attaching the original (problematic?) ini and cfg files, just in case you want to exam them.
Thanks again, Stan

I lost the drums again, not only in PT, but with other playback software as well, after upgrading to the IE explorer 8 (Vista) update. This time, resetting the latency via the PT LatencyAdjust.SEQ file solved the problem. So, to to recap, if you have this problem:
(1) Adjust/readjust the latency
(2) Quantize durations to a higher value
(3) (last resort): try deleting the SysEx header at 1:001:00 if it didn't come from you yourself.
