Just inherited an "upgrade" laptop with Vista32. (Have been on an XP machine.) Installed BIAB, USB midi driver, and Ketron patch. In midi settings, I choose USB device for output, just like before. Run USB midisport uno from computer to Ketron, just like before. Run Ketron stereo audio output to mic/line in on Sony Viao, just like before. Run line from earphone jack out to PA, just like before. Realtracks work just fine. Midi-tracks, no sound. Suggestions? Do I need another sound card? (This soundcard mixer only talks about mic not line in. I had a Audigy before (that won't adapt to this computer) that had separate settings for mic and line in.) Thanks.

Were you using the A2ZSNB card in a PCMCIA slot? If so and the problem is that the Sony only has an express slot there is an adapter that works perfectly.Just plug the card into the adapter & plug the adapter into the Sony express slot. As far as the setup you are using it should work but the settings are sort of different from XP to Vista. Go into the control panel & find the sound icon and take a look around at the settings. Yes the probably is only a mono mic input.

Yes it is a PCMCIA card. However, I'm pretty sure the input jack has lost stereo capability. But I may try an adapter as you suggest just to see what happens.
The mic input on the Sony is stereo. When I use the BIAB Vu meter it shows the audio input from the Ketron. But the audio input is not merged through with the other audio output and I'm not having any luck finding a setting to change.

First you need to find out if your Vaio has the capability of using the Mic jack as a Line Input. Very few laptops can actually do that. There are some few lapops that actually feature a separate Line Input as well as Mic, it is a shame that the majority of laptop designers don't seem to think that a Line Input is a feature worth having.
So search your laptop's documentation, do some websearching using the brand and model number plus "Line Input" and see what's going on. If it is a dual jack that can do either Mic or Line input then the typical method involves toggling from one to the other in Software, at least on the scant few I've seen. I've even seen one example from another mfr other than Sony that claimed to do it but alas we never got it to work.
Finally, the ultimate cure would be to throw a bit more money at it and pick up a USB sound device that has the requisite Line Input, etc. as well as beter specs for Music Making endeavors. The M-Audio USB stuff comes to mind.
You mentioned that you can see the Ketron output on the Biab VU meters. That would seem to indicate that the audio is at least getting into the computer. Are those the Input VU meters on the LH side? If so, and there is nothing on the RH side VU meters, which are the Playback meters, then this is a monitoring issue. Check the Record Properties for that soundcard to see if there is a checkbox or fader for the Line Input Playback that may be turned down of off or possibly not activated. Sometimes you have to choose menu items in the Mixer View in order to add more available faders so you can see and use them.

Thanks Mac. As usual, your comments and suggestions are right on target. I'll do some exploring on the Sony, but I've suspected that the input port does not double as line-in and mic. When creating audio from BIAB (real track for example) the right Vu meter shows fine and the sound is fine. When bringing audio into the Sony, the left Vu meter shows, but the right one doesn't. The volume for the mic is turned up and I've even used the "boost" function to where the left meter blows out but still nothing on the right meter.
Sometimes ya just can't go native (as in native soundcard).
Thanks again.
