Da Da ! My new BIAB finally got here.
I got the 80 GB External Hard Drive version... and the printed instructions tell me I can run it directly on the hard disk or install it on my system.
My question... can I do both... install it on a laptop for a gig... and still have it on the external Hard Disk to run on my desk top at home for rehearsel or arranging or whatever?
OR... once you "install" it on your system is it no longer useable on the external hard disk?
Thanks for any help.

I recently bought a 320 gig USB drive and i move BiaB RB and the RTs and RDs and all my song files over there it runs perfect off my Laptop, and now i can also plug it into my desktop and work there. So i am leaving it there and working from that angle.
HP Win 11 12 gig ram, Mac mini Sonoma with 16 gig of ram, BiaB/RB 2026, Reaper 7, Harrison Mixbus 11 , Presonus Audiobox USB96

Hi Will. You'll be happy to hear that you can do any or all of the above. There's no copy potection, or other gotchas, so you can customize the install as you need it. *************************************************************************** The most common things to do would be:
(for this discussion, X:\ represents the drive letter of your USB Drive)
1. Run it from the USB hard drive. For this, there's nothing much to do, just run x:\PG Music\Programs\Band-in-a-Box.exe
2. Install the program to the hard drive (1 GB), but not RealTracks (30GB) or RealDrums (5GB). For this, run the included installer. This installs BB to c:\bb and RealBand to c:\RealBand
3. Install the "whole thing" (36 GB). You could do that by simply dragging the whole x:\PG Music\Programs\BB folder (36GB) and x:\PG Music\Programs\RealBand to your hard drive, as c:\bb and c:\RealBand
4. "Roll your own" install. (Size as needed) You could drag the BB and RealBand folders, as in #3, but exclude the RealTracks and Drums folders completely , or after you've copied the whole thing to your c:\ drive, delete some of the RealTracks folders that you don't plan on using (from your C:\ drive, keeping the backup of them on your x:\ drive).

A follow-up question on copying BIAB EverythingPAK to my laptop from the 80G Drive - Since BIAB & RB are both in the same folder, could I simply drag x:\PGMusic to my laptop C drive or must I drag seperate files for BIAB and RB?

You could simply drag the folders. If this is a 'first-time' install (not an upgrade), you would need to install the fonts and the Roland VSC first. You can do that by running the installer on the root folder of the usb drive.

If you have real tracks and real drums on an ext. hd and the rest of BIAB on the C: drive, how can the main pgm find the real tracks and real drums on the ext. drive?

I think I found the answer to my que. above. You go to Opt. >Preferences> real drums or real track settings and insert the path?
