If you listen to certain tracks from 'Are You Experienced' by Jimi Hendrix you'll hear the snare and cymbals vibrating from Noel Reddings bass. Clearly the core recording was done with the whole band together in one studio room. I don't think that was uncommon back then.
So, does anyone know of a way to do this in this era of digital recording? Is there an FX plug-in that could add snare and cymbal vibration to a bass track? Is there any other way you could think of?
I'd love to add snare and cymbal vibration to my own bass tracks, or to BiaB/RB bass tracks, to add that retro 'cool' factor. Thanks in advance.

Assuming a sequencer, you can create two tracks drums and bass- perhaps start with a pair of midi tracks - pair and prune as desired allocate drums sounds as you please, then adjust dynamics and levels, but importantly run them through the same reverb - convolution preferred. Its not going to be quite the same, no emulation ever is, but depending on mix context in gets near - ish.
Be sure to pay attention to Eq and Pan

Some synths have a bass & cymbal patch (sound) together. Mine sounds like a "ride" cymbal's single hit though, not sizzling, when you play a bass note. I suspect it is for a Jazz type ensemble?
You may also want to look at some (midi) sound fx sounds and see if there is something similar to what you are looking for. You may be able to add a little here and there for the effect. Check out the symphony drum kit for cymbal sounds as well.

All due respect, I would wonder why you would want to do this. It's mostly spurious noise. Would you also want to add clicks, hiss and pops from the vinyl version? That said, you could just overdub some white noise and make it periodic with some kind of LFO or something. Great album tho. I find some of the lines comming to memory almost daily. `Goaheadon Mr. businessman......' I first heard that album in Saigon with no idea of who he was! It was like....... nothing else. Ever. Got to meet him later back in L.A.

Mostly to make BiaB backing tracks sound a little more authentic. I have a BiaB version of 'The Wind Cries Mary' and 'Little Wing'. It would be nice to duplicate the snare and cymbal vibration heard in both songs. It also makes a song sound a little more 'live' if that's what I'm going for.
You got to meet Jimi Hendrix? Cool. I'm not much for celebrities in general but Jimi re-wrote the book on rock music IMO.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I had hoped there was a VST plugin for this but you can't have everything I guess.

Firstoff, on those Hendrix recordings, it may not be just a matter of simple bleedthrough or mics picking other instruments up on tracks, he just loved to do all sorts of things in front of the oonsole after the tracks were recorded, such as re-recording two or more tracks together to a new track and mixing that in, or flanging, which got its name from the methodology of actually holding your finger along the flange of the feedreel on the tape transport while re-recording a track such that the newly recorded track lagged the original track when both were played back together. Don't forget that with analog magnetic tape, each re-recording done would suffer in fidelity, but Jimi used that detriment as a sonic tool.
There's even a telephone bell hidden way back in the mix on some of the earliest Experience recordings.
Jimi created stuff that was difficult to impossible to duplicate by others even when they were using basically the same analog 16-track tape setups. To try to duplicate that using pcm digital in the computer may be an impossible task, given the differences in the two formats plus the unknowns as to exactly what it was Jimi was doing in the first place.
Of course, there's nothing wrong with experimenting and finding out what you may be able to accomplish, who knows? Just don't expect it to be done in one pass with a single plugin, at least not until someone manages to crack the thing in the first place and then also manages to write it into a plugin...

Pwarren, I have a better understanding now of why you are after the rattle good luck. Good thoughts Mac, Plus the spirit of his playing was probably pretty tough to duplicate. I feel he had a bigger impact on pop music than just about everybody much like the Bealtles did. There is guy on utube playing Manic Depression and a few other of his tunes in an acoustic trio setting that knocks me out. It's almost like jazz with the ac bass and brushes. I for one, feel like some of the spriit of Jimi's stuff is in his playing but he is not playing Hendrix licks. And it is the hottest sounding live acoustic sound since Stephen Stills. Love to know what that FX pedal is. He uses it in a very musical way. Phil Brown is his name and he also has an electric trio on utube doing something closer to the `Experince days' but I haven't listened to much of it. The sound is not good. The sound on the acoustic trio is very good. He changes the chords and much of the melody but I'd rather that than just copying Jimi. See what you think here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIEnuFUGYKc Ron
