I just figured out how to do a rest and shot in biab/realband (hey, the online help does answer a lot of questions!) and I have a couple of follow-up questions.

1.) What is the consensus of opinion on the quality of rest/shots with Realtracks? Does it sound natural (especially the shots)? I've only done one and I can't really tell yet until I add everything in. My first impression is that there is too much "dead" space, but since I will add in some real stuff, maybe it would be that big of deal. I guess my first choice would be a shot where the natural sound of the "stopped" instrument continues (I guess those are overtones, or just "natural", resonating carry-over type sounds). Just flat out dead space doesn't sound as natural.

2.) Does realtracks know a rest/shot is coming and does it do something different at a rest or a shot as it leads into ? Or does it just stop?

Kevin

EDIT: Maybe I should have posted this in the BIAB section??

A Shot is a real musical term, and it means just what it does in BIAB/RB, the player should nail the note and then rest. It is supposed to be a short note.

A Hold would carry through with the ringout, only thing is that RealTracks don't support Holds at this time. Peter G says they are working on it.

As for your second question, it shouldn't play any differently in the bar leading into a shot. However, if there is a Part Marker at the bar, the drums will play a Fill before the bar, that might be what you are asking about. If you don't want that, remove the Part Marker.

No, I want a shot -- but with the digital "shot" there just seems to be an "unnatural" emptiness there (yea I know it's a rest for the rest of the measure, which means no playing). It might be correct, but it sounds weird. I'll be adding in an acoustic guitar, electric guitar, harmonica and maybe some other percussion, so maybe I'll have enough ambient recording noise around to make it seem realistic. LOL! Does any of this make any sense?

OK, The shot is working as well as I can expect so far. I'm happy.

I haven't really liked the way it does shots either so I do my own manually. Same with holds. I import the notes into Dart XP Pro to lengthen.

Just kept re-generating until I got what I wanted. Plus if you have any live instruments in there, it sure helps. I've read where some folks couldn't get certain realtrack instruments to do a shot no matter what they did, so it is not perfect in the realtrack world. Until it gets improved upon by PG Music, we just have to accept what's there and work around with it the best we can. Trial and error!
